Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Coming from Omaha for the games this weekend. Pretty excited! What's the alcohol policy at DU? Do they sell?

Looking forward to some great hockey.
Have fun in Denver. Yep, plenty of alcohol in Magness. The bigger concession stands sell the typical Bud, Bud Light, and the smaller beer stands around the arena sell some better crafty-type beers.

Now that DU looks competitive again, it should indeed be some great hockey. Olkinoura has been an absolute wall in goal, though Gwoz may give Brittain one of the starts. Why, I don't know. But that's the way Gwoz rolls.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Luke, Goal Czar, Salazar is the leading scorer for Frisk Asker of Norway's GEL liagen.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Per Chambers today, DU will forge forward with just 17 skaters including 11 forwards and 6 d-men. Gwoz will not be bringing in any mid-season replacements. Forwards Garrett Allen (finger operation) and Jarrod Mermis (leave of absence) are out indefinitely. Their return would allow DU to dress 12 forwards. Sounds like Jussi will be the goalie going forward as he is en fuego.

There is nothing funny about beer. Wine is kinda funny. But beer is serious!

Trying to remember the last time DU brought in a mid-season replacement. I can't think of any. Has that ever happened under Gwoz?

EDIT--I just read the Chambers article, which says it has never happened under Gwoz. I can't remember it happening before him, either.

I know, I know!!! It was around 1990 or so. His name was Daryl Seltenreich or something like that. He was really fast!! I'm pretty sure he transferred mid season from Air Force. (this is where we need Swami, maybe if I write something totally egregious he will chime in!)

.

Players that transfer from D-1 schools have to sit out a year, so that's not the same as bringing in a recruit who has signed an LOI in January.

Some football players, usually quarterbacks, graduate from from high school a semester early and enroll in college to participate in Spring Drills without losing eligibility.

Darryl Seltenreich transferred from Illinois-Chicago and sat out the 1985-86 season. He was a really good player who averaged almost a point and a half in two seasons at DU.

Interestingly he has a couple of kids playing for the Littleton Hawks who won a Colorado State Championship last year..

So basically, I got everything wrong there!!!

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

You got the name right so I looked it up in the media guide. :)

We could have used him during the 85-86 season!!! I remember how fast he would come off the player's bench and skate to the action, woooossshhh!!!

This backs up what I saw during the one Aeros game I attended. He was on the third/fourth line and wasn't all that prominent. Will be interesting to see if he gets more ice time now that some Aeros guys head up to Minnesota.

Good job!
Gauthier is with Denver Cutthroats with Fulghum and McKenzie and is currently injured.
Beau Bennett with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

Sounds like Donovan will get a shot to make Islanders, Bridgeport's best d-man this season and Snow said one of the Bridgeport d-men will be on Isles.

Will be interesting to see if Colborne gets a shot with Leafs and Bennett gets a shot with Pens.
