Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

57 Update. Tiger "goaltending" gives up 8 tonight in Omaha. Now 8-11-2 and have the highest GA in the WCHA--at 79. The curse/drought is moving towards the half century mark. Will Owens be there when that banner is raised?
The CC loss on Friday hurt DU in the Pairwise. CC finally fell off the TUC Cliff.

With CC on the Pairwise list DU was 8-4-1 against TUCs; without them they are 6-4-1.

CC is 1-8-2 in their last 11 games.

I hate to say it, and you'll never ever hear me say it again, but [cough, cough, spit, take a Crying Game shower] PioNation should cheer for CC tonight against Nebraska-Omaha.

HUGE congrats to DU Assistant Coach Lassonde on helping coach team USA to a WJC Gold Medal :D Likely the only time I will ever root for a North Dakota player too..... Grimaldi really had a good game today. Seeing Rocco and Lassonde embrace while celebrating is noteworthy as well. It's also got to be neat for him to go from coaching Juho, then to Gibson and a gold medal, then back to Juho...... :)

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Good game last night for DU. It all starts with Olkinoura. If he doesn't have the hot hand once again, DU loses. Looking forward to seeing him play again tonight. He is just so composed back there, and his positioning has been perfect. Amazing how a goaltender's play can affect the whole team. If there was a negative from last night, it was that Jussi had to bail out his team from a few defensive lapses.

Hopefully that was Q. Shore's breakout game. Nothing like 2 goals against a quality opponent to raise your confidence.

Knowlton was great again. The sequence on Ostrow's goal was a thing of beauty---Knowlton makes an excellent play on defense to gather the puck, threads a perfect touch pass to Ostrow, Ostrow does a great job of corralling the pass, and puts in a beautiful goal at the end. Great stuff...Knowlton's pass reminded me of stuff Connor James used to do out there.

I was wondering why DU still had the power play after Ostrow's goal--is that a new rule? Frankly, it seems a bit excessive to me, to give the team that just scored a power play.

Also very solid play by Tabrum, and good to see Larkin Jacobson back out there. Go get that sweep tonight! Another win means that DU is officially back on track.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

DU should mix up the alumni raffle and change things up just a bit. Rather than just buy your ticket and wait on a boring drawing - lets instead have people guess at which point in each game - that Mayfield will be kicked out. Closest to the actual time on the scoreboard wins. If by some miracle he doesn't get axed - the pot carries over to the next game. That will not only sell a lot of tickets, but people will be on the edge of their seats, anxiously anticipating each thunderous hit - and watching the referee's reaction. Of course, the Refs and their families cannot participate.

That is funny.... :D

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Yeah, I appreciate Mayfield's physical presence out there, especially against a big and tough team like Cornell. But he's gotta be smarter than to risk taking yourself out of the next game, by losing your composure with 5 seconds left in the game. Be smart out there!!!

Yeah, agreed. I don't think I can do this!!!

Yes. Took effect last season. If you score on the delayed call you still get the PP. I think it adds a nice double jeopardy effect.

Aeros Scoring leader Jason Zucker takes on Rampage Scoring leader Drew Shore and John Lee in Houston tonight.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Good weekend for the Pios. CU played much better tonight--especially Andy Isles. I thought they made some key adjustments over last night. DU comes up empty of the PP (including two majors). Rare that a team wins when they don't convert on two majors. One of the adjustments CU made was on their kill.

Very disappointing to see them lose there cool and be classless at the buzzer.

McCarron of Cornell was DQ'd at the end of the game. He and Mowrey both took cheap shots at DU's players heads after the buzzer. CU players were told to get off the ice and they completely ignored the refs. The stupid rookie refs had no idea what to do. That ticked me off because it's a player safety issue. Refs are suppose to protect players. Those two clowns were clueless.

Next weekend is going to be a tough series. UNO will come in hungry. Need to be ready and get the win on Friday.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

That was weird. When the game ended, I looked away from the ice for a minute to talk to the person I went with; when I looked back, it looked like the players were all trying to decide whether to brawl or not. I was REALLY hoping that whatever happened was instigated by Cornell and not DU, since whatever it was happened while I was looking away. It sounds like it was instigated by Cornell, although I also saw a couple of DU players making it pretty clear what they thought of the situation.
