Stopped by the Patty this afternoon. Good to see the boys back on the ice and working hard. The Blue/Gold game is this Saturday, Sept 26th, at 7:00pm (Patty Center), and our exhibition against Mt. Royal College is Sunday, Oct 4th, at 3:00pm (Carlson).

The polls are released. Predictions are a crap shoot. Predicting individual placement is a real crap shoot. Injuries, strength of schedule, $hit happens, all have some influence on final standings. But it seems the coaches, the media, and many fans are in agreement within certain tiers, regardless of individual finish.

Home ice: MSU, MTU, BGSU, BSU
Playoff bound: UAF, FSU, NMU, UAH
Staying home: LSSU, UAA

As a Nook fan I’m hoping the boys can get home ice. Both polls are similar and reasonable given the data, but mean nothing once the season starts. Drop the puck.

Mother Nature is obviously a Nook fan. She welcomed us early Friday morning (Sept 25) with a fresh blanket of snow, just in time for Saturday’s Blue & Gold game and the upcoming season. This is my deck railing at about 1:00 in the afternoon, with the snow still falling. Drop the puck!

Guys, let me write some thoughts

I can not wait to see if John Keeney can rebound from an awful last season for him. He looked like the real deal as a Freshman and now he will have his last chance to shine. He has had a weird career. Davis Jones will be the starter goalie but he is a bit inconsistent and he is not established yet as a 100% reliable goalie in my opinion so i think Keeney will have another chance. It will be hard try to repair Cahill's loss, though.

I am worried about the defense, a really YOUNG defense. It is not just the loss of Parayko, but also guys like Trevor Campbell or Nolan Kaiser. Atkinson needs to step up as a leader and i have high hopes for Zach Frye. Really looking forward to see Justin Woods back in the ice, that will be an emotional moment.

I feel very confortable with the forward core. Morley and Basara are back and i feel like Krieger will explode into a great player. Huysmans should have a better year. Ryker Leer has had good stats last year and would be good as a Freshman.

Can not wait!! Go Nooks!!

Signed in to USCHO for the first time since March today. Feels pretty good.

First blog of the season. Enjoyed the team's first practice up at that Patty with mmf earlier this season. Blue/Gold scrimmage tonight as the season gets unofficially kicked off, figured a new blog post fit the occasion.

Entertaining night at the 2015 Alaska Nanooks Blue & Gold Game. Got a chance to see the freshman and overall they really represented themselves well. We may not have a lot of marquee names, but we should be fairly fast and solid up and down the line up. Although checking was dialed back to avoid early season injuries, there was pretty good to pace for a Blue/Gold game. Good job boys. Good job Face-Off Club for hosting this. The boys are back on the ice next Sunday at the Carlson at 3:00pm, in an exhibition game vs. Mt. Royal College.

Whoa, highlighter pads are an eyesore. Need to dirty those up.

However, love your Gold jersery, simple is soo much better when it comes to jerseys I am learning. Are those newly designed?

For those Nook fans who are interested, HERE is a link to about 20 more photos from the Blue & Gold Game on Sept 26th.

I typically shoot hockey at a high iso and crop my photos quite a bit, so the quality is more suitable for viewing on the web instead of printing. This just a hobby for me. When the mood strikes, I try to shoot the first game of every home series.

A lot nicer photos then the stream of the game with messed up audio. I hope it was just a one-off from being at the patty center and not an indication of the streaming quality this season.

We've had the gold alternates for at least five seasons, however that particular design of them debuted last season. The prior version just had the A-bear logo on a gold sweater, similar to the regular blue and white sweaters.

I am trying to purchase my Gov Cup tickets online on Ticketmaster for the games in Anchorage in December, but it is not letting me choose my seats so I am trying to make sure the seats I'm assigned are around the Nooks bench. The seating map isn't showing where the benches are. Is it the same as it was in the past or with the renovations at the Sully, did this change? I didn't know if they switched sides like the Nanooks had with their renovations so just wanted to check. Anyone know?

They played a 60 minute game, right?

So is Mt Royal that good, or is UAA that bad?

There were a total of 5 minor penalties and 29 shots on goal between both teams. Was this sloppy turnover fest up and down the ice all night?

I listened to the game. Not sure if it was a turnover fest, but it sure was a snooze fest.

But then again, it was only an exhibition, it was only on radio, it was Tuttle as the announcer, it was in Soldotna and lacked the boisterous home crowd, and after all it was only UAA. I’ll refrain from ridicule until after we play the cougars on Sunday.

Hope we just overlooked them, once Mt. Royal scored we woke up and had some good chances, the crowd also woke up lol.
