Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

And here we are, 20 points after 22 games in a three way tie for 5th and two bye weeks in February. The WCHA standings are such a mess it's impossible to predict how it will all shake out, but since we are off this weekend here is what we most need to have happen:

MSU sweep Bemidji (playing at Bemidji so I wouldn't count on it)
UAA sweep LSSU (vomit, plus playing at LSSU so I wouldn't count on that either)

Since those two scenarios aren't necessarily likely, what we really need to do is return a few favors at Tech in a couple weeks and hope that Lake State continues to stumble.

Bemidji is coming to Kato. We played up there in October and split.

Actually, BSU plays at MSU this weekend.

I saw that. www.playoffstatus.com is generally in agreement with you. The series I am actually most worried about is at Tech. I think we can take points at home against Ferris and Anchorage, but the Tech series will be a deal breaker one way or the other. Basically we need to win what we can and hope LSSU loses.

Didn't Tech sweep you in _airbanks? I think they've improved since then. Both UAA and UA_ have their work cut out for them.

Glad to see you're pulling for the mighty Seawolves again this weekend.
Come join us at The Crossbar and help us cheer the guys on.
I'll buy your beer.

Although the Nooks may very well miss the playoffs, I like the WCHA playoff structure. The season means something. We have certainly underperformed and deserve our woes, but it’s disheartening to think that the seniors may know their fate before the season is actually over. In the CCHA, usually you never really knew if it was the last game of your college career until late in the third period of the game you were playing.

If the Nooks lose any one of the games this weekend with MTU, then their season or college careers could likely end the night of March 8th. Not certain, but likely. Play each shift like it’s your last. It may not be that far off.

There has been a lack of urgency most of this season. This is a program that historically (at least under the current staff) tends to play up or down depending on the opponent, and I think there have been a few L's this year where we thought we'd win by just showing up.

Nooks best MTU 7 – 3 tonight.

Solid effort and critical win for the boys. They were all over the Huskies and a much better team than MTU tonight. Our team speed and skill players dominated. But we need a win tomorrow night or it all may be for naught. But great job tonight.

Go Nooks!

Alaska Nanooks had a good win tonight

Up 4-0 on Tech halfway through the 2nd period in Houghton after being on the positive end of a 7-3 shellacking last night. Looks like the guys ate their Wheaties this weekend.

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Nanooks with 24 goals for and 5 goals against in their last four games, and game #4 still has one period left to play.

Granted two of those games were UAH, but I'll take 24-5 over four games any time.

Nooks take it to MTU tonight 7 – 2 for the much needed road sweep.

The boys are clicking on all cylinders. MTU couldn’t (or didn’t) handle our team speed, quickness, and skill players. Nook fans knew they had it in them. We seem to be peaking at the right time. If we can make it into the playoffs we can play with anyone.

I would like to have a playoff spot locked up before the last series of the year. But if comes down to the last weekend I hope it is between us and UAA for the last playoff spot and the Cup. Whoever wins, the series would be the type of series that any Seawolf or Nook fan would salivate over. That in itself would cause me to send Penn State a thank you card.

Go Nooks!

Y'all's big problem is only having four more games, but you just about locked up a playoff spot with this weekend. Kudos —*I flipped over to watch when I could during UAH-MSU intermissions.

I've got UA_ going on the road to Anchorage for the playoffs.

I don’t have a clue what is going to happen, but I don’t share your optimism for the Nooks or the Seawolves. This third period is critical for both UAA and BGSU. You may not get another point.

You have both Ferris and UAF on the road, and no points would not be a shocker. We have both Ferris and UAA at home. Both NMU and LSSU have three series left which includes UAH. BSU only has two series left, but that also includes UAH. LSSU still has UAH but also FSU and MSU, so they have a tough road out. So it wouldn’t surprise me if the Governor’s Cup also determines if UAA or UAF gets the last playoff spot.
