Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Per the News Miner, the Chargers are in Fairbanks but their gear isn't.

Shades of UNO playing in Ice Dogs sweaters a few years ago...

Did they have a rough time getting there due to the continuing bad weather in the Lower 48?

One of my favorite things about my alma mater is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. And this video epitomizes that ideology (and it's for a good cause).

The Miner says this will be shown during the Huntsville game this weekend ... what a hoot. Really good idea! The Fairbanks Hospital Foundation is going to give away free cowbells Friday night, that should make Erik estatic! He hates UAA fans use of cowbells. Copy cats. :p

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

They had this on channel 2 news tonight. I only have one question, what is the F for? ;)
Must stand for "failure" cause they were embarrassed to have the word "Fairbanks" associated with their name.

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

I think they flew out of ATL, which may have been the problem. I'm sure gfmorris would have the scoop.

Some of the time when we fly, we fly direct out of Huntsville, but those are generally on larger flights to hubs that aren't near us. We would nearly fill whatever puddle-jumpers ASA is flying the 35-minute hop to ATL under Delta's name when you throw in the weight of the gear. As a result, we typically bus to Atlanta or Nashville to make our connection.

You can imagine that getting to and through Atlanta yesterday was a nightmare with the aftermath/ongoing of Tuesday's snow/ice attack across the mid-South. Birmingham was just as much of a mess as Atlanta was, and unless you go back roads to get there, you go through Birmingham to get to Atlanta on a bus.

Matty Salhany tweeted Tuesday evening that they were leaving early the next morning. The official University Twitter account let loose that the boys had just made their Atlanta connection around 7pm Central last night. Tim O'Donnell of the FDNM tweeted six hours ago (right at) that the boys had made it to Fairbanks but that their gear had not. A couple of hours later, he tweeted that they're practicing tonight, so either they now have their bags or have an ETA for getting them. Either is fine by me.

O'Donnell just tweeted a picture of UAH practicing at the Carlson Center. Looks like their gear made it.

Except Cody Marooney's. He tweeted Alaska Airlines about it this morning. AA replied saying they are "diligently" searching for it. DRAMA!

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Looking at the standings and our upcoming schedule, this is a huge series for us. If we can get all four points, we could be in 5th with a tiebreaker over Bemidji if MSU and BGSU take care of their business

After this weekend, we travel to Tech, have a week off, then entertain Ferris and baby brother at home to end the season. Bottom line, it gets a lot harder after this weekend. Tech is playing to not miss the playoffs (like us), Ferris is strong although I like our chances to get a split playing at home, and Anchorage is always Anchorage no matter what the stakes are.

In summation: do not take Huntsville lightly. Success this weekend could very well determine how long we play in March.

He could always borrow an Alaska sweater. :D

Well, at least it'd be blue. :) We have word that Cody's bag made it to Fairbanks, so we're good.

(Speaking of unis, while watching CPR/Stayin' Alive video, I couldn't help but think that the Nanooks' uniforms are pretty slick.)

Before anyone asks, the gopros are mine. I'm reviewing the footage now, it's completely freaking awesome! Youtube video to come next week.

I was a little bit worried when it was 2-1.

You should have been. That's when we're pesky. I knew that we were hosed as soon as that icing happened. I am very disappointed that the wheels fell off.

And here we are, 20 points after 22 games in a three way tie for 5th and two bye weeks in February. The WCHA standings are such a mess it's impossible to predict how it will all shake out, but since we are off this weekend here is what we most need to have happen:

MSU sweep Bemidji (playing at Bemidji so I wouldn't count on it)
UAA sweep LSSU (vomit, plus playing at LSSU so I wouldn't count on that either)

Since those two scenarios aren't necessarily likely, what we really need to do is return a few favors at Tech in a couple weeks and hope that Lake State continues to stumble.

Impossible to predict?!?! ;) http://uahhockey.com/blog/2014/02/02/krach-schedule-2/

The problems for UA: everyone below them have games in hand, with all of them playing UAH; two of Alaska's three match-ups come against teams that will finish above them in the table; one of those teams is Ferris. To make the playoffs, you pretty much need a split against Ferris paired with six points in the four games against UAA and MTU. Sweeping Tech in two weeks would be huge for you and would probably keep you in the playoffs.

I saw that. www.playoffstatus.com is generally in agreement with you. The series I am actually most worried about is at Tech. I think we can take points at home against Ferris and Anchorage, but the Tech series will be a deal breaker one way or the other. Basically we need to win what we can and hope LSSU loses.

Y'all should be UAH's biggest fans hear on out.
