Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Sorry, I can't root for UAA. Why would you? I hope they get swept. They're doing good things and improving the program for sure, but I'll never root for them.
I feel the same about you guys. However, I'm making an exception for the Denver game. I cannot stand that arrogant program and them getting swept would make me happy.

95% of the time I agree with you...their in-game failings typically bring me immense joy. But I'm on their train this weekend for two reasons:

1. I would love nothing more than for both Alaska programs, which were/are routinely looked down upon by other more "prestigious" schools, to stick it to two nacho programs.
2. If we both sweep, it helps our strength of schedule when we beat UAA four times this season.

Good points....still can't do it! :)

Arrogant...I've heard that several times about Denver.

Denver and North Dakota were two of the main catalysts in forming the NCHC.

I knew that about UND...never really paid much attention to DU. Once they formed the NCHC, I stopped really paying attention to all of them. Thanks for the info!

Well, I think a lot of that was due to Gwoz, and he's gone now. Too funny that he was the main one pushing for the new league and he's not even going to be coaching there. It will be interesting to see which of these "elite" teams ends up being the cellar dwellers and miss out on an NCAA bid. My gut tells me that CC is going to have a very rough time of it.

CC, WMU, and probably St. Cloud.

I drove back from Anchorage today on snow free roads. Not bad for October 13th. I took some photos of both Nook games and will post a link below (I wish USCHO would clear up their issue with Goggle AdSense and allow photo embedding). But a few comments:

Nice to finally meet Suze. But Seawolves still suck.

I sat at the top of the balcony stairs both nights during the first games, and the SMG staff were pleasant to everyone they ushered back downstairs.

I came away with different impression of our games than most. I thought we let Air Force get in close and play around our net to often and our overall effort was only mediocre. We prevailed because we were quite a bit faster and had more skilled players. That’s also why the penalties didn’t sink us. We also had some puck luck on Friday night. We gave them chances to keep it closer but they didn’t capitalize.

Stupid penalties killed us. I thought we looked pretty good 5 on 5. We had a number of quality chances that we didn’t bury. I guess we used up all our puck luck Friday night. Overall I came away pretty encouraged about what the season may bring. We have seventeen underclassmen and only three seniors so there is a little bit work early in the season to do. But I like the fast and up-tempo pace. I think we will be able to skate with anyone.

Did I mention Seawolves still suck.

It was nice to meet you too. Sure you think the Seawolves suck, because they WON the tourney and UA_ didn't. ;)

Thanks for sharing what you witnessed with Sully staff, that was our experience both nights too.

Seriously though, glad you had good driving weather and made it home safely. I wish I could figure out how to post pictures on this site!

Anybody know if the HD cameras will be up and running this weekend?

I'm the same way, can't root for uaf, although blue is my favourite college football and nfl teams primary colors, can't root for uaf. Please change your colors so I can wear blue without feeling dirty
You looked soooo fine in that custom-made Powder blue suit you had to ditch when UA_ had those “baby blue throw backs" made a number of years ago.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! You couldn't pay me to cheer for Anchorage. :-)

And believe me, the feeling is mutual! At least mmf rooted for UAA last weekend. ;)

Soooo does anyone know how the seating is going to work with this weekends upcoming games? Assuming it'll be first come first served?

Are they playing at the Patty Center? If so, why?

Season ticket holders get first shot, anything left after that will be first come, first served.
