Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Not really GC related, but there's an article in the Anchorage Press about the Alaska Aces ownership group's efforts to take over management of the Sullivan Arena from SMG. Interesting read.

Not sure about UAF, but UAA uses tickets sold, not butts in seats. So hypothetically, let's say UAF uses tickets sold as well. That would mean that UAA, which has roughly 5,000 more students (counting full-time and part-time at both schools), and which is located in a city that has roughly 175,000 to 180,000 more people than the FNSB, is averaging a total of 78 more sold/promotional tickets than your UA system patriarch in Fairbanks.

Remember, there are lies, **** lies, and statistics.

UAA may have more students, but remember many of those are older adults who commute. UA_ has the advantage of more dorms, and the fact that there is nothing else to do up there. Here, we have many more ways to spend our dollars. ;)

Geez, you just walked into a panhandling joke!

I still raising funds to go to Fairbanks, corner of Northern Lights and C.

Something you should all remind yourselves before you leave your decript quonset huts and jump into your ramshackle bus for the big timey trip to the big timey city ...

UAF may in some twisted sense be the patriarchal entity in the UA system. Why?

The state is still offsetting for the decline of Fairbanks following the completion of the pipeline. It's artificially propping up the city by establishing the University as one of the (if not the) most important industries in the area. Let's call it what it is shall we? Welfare.

WelfairBanks?

Gems like this are why the UAA blog is one of the funniest e-rags on the interweb.

And not to pollute your dreams with actual facts, but I bet the 15% population increase in the last decade in Fairbanks really explains that "decline".

According to 2009 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the _airbanks was 35,252
Does that also tally all the inmates at the jail? If so it’s a surprise it’s not up 30%

Talk about being butthurt about one little setback. The owners of the Aces always seem to want something more than they deserve. Somebody needs to remind the City that they're owners of minor league hockey team in league that went from 31 teams to 19 in less than a decade and that's not mention the contraction and expansion and movement over that time.

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

No when I get homesick I panhandle at Pike Place. The company is sending me back to ANC for a few days in March, though, so I may join birdman at Northern Lights and C for old times sake.

The Bums are still chatting about the last occasion you 2 where partying it up behind the hedge.

Exactly JJ. The Aces are not a sure thing, it's pure economics and they are hurting with attendance being down. Unlike UAA, who does not depend on attendance, the Aces do. They have huge expenses.
