Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Listen, I was at that game and overheard the whole thing. It went down like this:;)

Adrian player: "Nice series fellas, now next weekend do this to ^*#@% MSOE."
LU player: " OK, But only if you guys give it to &%^$# Marian."
Ref : " C'mon boys, no fraternizing on my watch. I'm late for that steak dinner and its going to cost you if you don't leave now.
Both players: "Sorry Sir" we apologize for being inconsiderate about your time. Have a safe trip home Addie. You to Larry.

Nothing more, nothing less. :p

This is a great post! I literally laughed out loud when I read it!

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Adrian sweeps Marian, 6-0 and 3-1.

Obviously Marian played much, much better this afternoon. Last night was not as close as the score indicated. It could easily have been 8-0 or 9-0. They were lost out there, plain and simple.

Today was much different. Adrian did outplay Marian, but by nowhere near the magnitude of last night. Kevin Balas popped a shorthanded goal late in the 2nd to open the scoring, and then Adrian poured in two more goals to make it 3-0, and after that the rest of it was academic.

Sorry, but not much of anything else to talk about here.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Boys. We've got to talk.

The last two weeks, we've tied two teams that, quite frankly, have no business taking points from us. Today we had a 5-1 lead with 12 minutes to go, and needed a goal with 75 seconds left to pull out a 6-5 win. Last week, we bury Lake Forest on Friday only to have to pull out a tie on Saturday. And I'm not even going to start on what happened a few weeks ago against Lawrence, who currently sits last in the standings, yet took two ties from us as well.

We need to get our act together. No ifs, ands, or buts. We struggle to win faceoffs, our penalty-kill is mediocre at best, and the discipline is lacking. These three things are going to be the end of our season if it continues much longer. If we don't win the Harris Cup and get the Pool A into the tournament, it's not going to be difficult to figure out why. And it will be our own **** fault.

Adrian is the top team in the MCHA, head and shoulders. The problem is, we haven't played like it the past few weeks. Sure, there was the rout of Lake Forest last Friday night (and a tip of the cap to Mr. Sullivan from LFC for keeping that to 6-1 instead of 10-1 or worse), but I've seen chicken farms that don't lay as many eggs as we have lately.

Finlandia is coming next weekend to close out the regular season. There's no reason or excuse whatsoever that we should not bury them both nights. We'll see what happens.

Play like you are capable. Or else we're going home without a tournament bid in a couple weeks.

#3 in the West. Our usual spot.

Just operate under the assumption that it's Pool A or season over.

And don't **** the bed against Finlandia this weekend.

Hammer,
Adrian is at home and doesn't have to play @ Finlandia. I just looked up the box scores of this weekends Finlandia v. LU series. Here is some food for thought.
Friday after each of LU's 3 goals a penalty was called on LU within a minute and a half of scoring.
Saturday Finlandia had 3 (5-on-3's) and went 0-11 on the PP.
The only thing LU did right in this series was kill off 17 Finlandia PP attempts. However, it looks like killing off the 17 PKs gassed them.

Adrian should be set for 2 wins this weekend and ready to play Finlandia a 3rd time in 2 weeks at the Semi-Finals of the Harris Cup.

Adrian won't have any problems with Finlandia. My money is on Adrian playing Northland in the semi-finals. I know that isn't a popular prediction but I think it will be right.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

I think the three of us will be just fine if there's ever a flood. We've tossed out enough sandbags to keep us dry for a while. :p

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Adrian 5-3 over Finlandia. Not the prettiest result, but I'll take what I saw tonight. The first two Finlandia goals were off of a blown offside call, and (partially) a horrific tripping call made by Smevoll. He is not a good referee. He and Karl Olm would make one hell of a ****show of a crew. If you ever get those two working together, well, I feel sorry for you.

Also: Micki Mihailovich. W-T-F, dude? That's not the way to go about that. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Reading this, and reading tthe boxscore... You've piqued my interest... W.t.f. Happened there? I mean obviously there was a fight, that the refs determined Mihailovic instigated, and he grabbed the other players facemask at some point during the incident. But what was the context of this incident??? Wowza... 32 PIMs for a single player in one stoppage, and TWO dq penalties at that o.O

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Does getting two DQs mean you're suspended for the next two games or just one?

I think he gets THREE. One for the first one, two for the 2nd DQ of the season.

I'll explain more later, but the call was correct. Might have been the only things the refs got right last night.

Imagine if he'd already had a DQ this season... His season would really be done! (and that's if the coach doesn't decide his season is finished anyway)

Ron might do just that.

I was told (and I haven't checked the rule book on this) that the 3rd DQ is 4 games plus a hearing.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

All right. Here is what I think transpired. If something happened previously to trigger this, I have no knowledge of that.

At the faceoff circle at center ice, Micki and a Finlandia player agreed to go, after the puck drop. The puck dropped. So did Micki's gloves. The Finlandia player took off skating the other way, making Micki look like a fool. Okay, fine. Maybe Micki could have chased the guy a little bit, point his finger, question the guy's manhood, drop a few 4-letter bombs, and take his 2 or 4 minutes and be done with it. Is that the way it went? Uh-uh. Micki takes off after this guy, almost into the corner, "removes" the player's mask, and away they both go pounding on each other.

In this case, the referee was justified in assessing 5-Fighting to both players, with corresponding DQ's. Right call there. Micki deserved the 5-Facemasking as well. I think the referee had to assess another DQ there, due to what that led to. The instigating penalty was also completely justified. As a result, he's looking at a mandated 3-game suspension, and given what I saw, that punishment fits the crime. I have no beef with the referees' decision there. Finlandia wound up with a 7-minute power play.

And for those who think he should get more, I disagree. It was a fight where one of our own went a little too far, and he's going to pay for it. *shrug*

Hammer, pass me a towel I still got wet.:o

I figured that Adrian would sweep Finlandia, but they did make it rather dramatic on Saturday. :) A fitting end to the Finlandia/Zebra Love In the past 2 weeks.:p
However, I didn't see MSOE soiling themselves on Friday nite blowing a 4-1 lead in the 3rd period to Northland. Ostipna must have been a real pleasure at the post game meal.:D
Also, LU taking 3 of 4 points from LFC and clinching home ice for the MCHA North Division Play-in Series was a surprise. Their diminutive coach must have been dancing like the Lucky Charms Leprechaun after that series.:D

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Hey. I gave you all fair warning that I was going to be wrong. :p

And I think I'm about to do it again. I think the chalk holds this weekend. MSOE and Lawrence hold serve, but one of them needs a mini-game to do it.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished business

Congratulations on going undefeated. A great achievement considering most teams in the conference improved themselves.
As the title of this thread suggests the seniors now have a job to do keeping the boys focused for what lays ahead. They know what it takes.

From the crease out I believe we have a winning line-up.
My biggest concern is what I consider to be undisciplined tendancies.
These tendancies are our biggest obstacle to continue winning.
Penalties are momentum killers. We can play 5 on 5 with anyone.

Use this time you have earned to prepare.
Play well in the second season boys !

Okay, boys. Here it is. You want to go to the NCAA tournament? You have to go through MSOE. They took your crown last year.

It's your move.
