Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

That's because everyone might be in suits. On Saturday we might have a problem in the press area instead.

Remember, Sergott and Elder were the two that butchered the Crookston series last year. Sergott was an idiot when he played at Ferris (and I haven't seen much improvement since), and Elder looks like a doe in headlights half the time.

Are they the refs for this weekend or did they do the games in Milwaukee? You are right......they are probably the worst that I have seen in a long time at this level. Brutal.

I don't know yet, and I won't until Friday. I don't think anyone screwed up a CCHA series last weekend, so there's no obvious choices. I've seen my fill of McInchak for a while, and I don't like Wilkins, either. I think we're due for a good Sergott-ing. Maybe we'll get lucky and see Stafford or Hall. At least then we've got a reasonable shot at some competency.

Upon further review, we're due for Stafford. Sergott was here during the Lawrence series three weeks ago. Stafford hasn't been here since Thanksgiving weekend.

Last year they sent us a black linesman named Bradshaw. You might remember him. He was put together pretty well. His arms were about the size of Zamboni tires, and he didn't take any crap from anyone out there. I was on the glass for one of the games and in my seats for the other, and I was able to get a good up-close look at how he worked a game. Very professional and didn't say much of anything the whole weekend. He did a really nice, clean job. If we could get guys like him I'd be thrilled.

I'm sure some SUNYAC fans would chip in to pay the travel expenses of a guy name St. Louis for a series out there (he also does a few Interlock games), and a lot of Interlock fans would chip in to send Tisi out there. You'd really enjoy them.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

While I have had occaision to be critical of the officiating I've seen at Arrington , (McInchak etc..), fortunately they haven't been a factor in determining the ulimate outcome.

My beef is that we see far too many officials that feel the need to be the main attraction, and they love to interrupt good action to perform their animations for the crowd. Now with two performers liscenced to make calls the problem is compounded. I can't stand it when an official is on top of the play in one end, watching the exchanges up close and personal, communicating ,...keeping order, ........then his partner in the neutral zone thinks he sees it better from his vantage point....whistle goes and everyone in the rink turn their heads from the action to watch the perfomance at center ice.

It's a rare occasion that one can say after a game that "we hardly noticed the refs". It happened more often when one guy had control.

That's what the two guys that I offered you do, all the time - fortunately they are never paired or there'd be a whistle every 30 secs or so as each one worked to show the other how good he was. That being said, we've had the two ref system for quite a while, and it does work most of the time - except for certain individuals. It seems that pairs of refs that work together a lot seem to develop a good sense of who should be calling what.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

MSOE comes to town undefeated in their last 8 games and are solid at # 3 in the MCHA but does it mean anything ?

Adrian have never lost to this former dominant MCHA program.
While 0-12 isn't exactly the type of record that carries the "rivalry" tag....I've always looked on MSOE and Marian as the biggest tests in the conference schedule.

The Bulldogs were pretty unspectacular in their last game, and that sort of performance would likely end their streak. What are we in store for ?

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

I think we're looking at a thump-and-bang series all weekend that is going to get more heated and physical than most would imagine.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Wish I could be there to catch the games, but I'll be stuck out here in Grand Rapids.

I still might be able to head over for tomorrow's game....

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

I heard that MSOE was upset after their last series and have been 'preparing' for our Michigan trip. I would imagine that the entertainment would come tonight, if any, because of next weeks playoffs. :D

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Anything go down at the first game?

ADR-10 Drew Satterley (5-Fighting) MSE 2x10 11:45
ADR-11 Eric Roman (2-Roughing) MSE 2x11 11:45
ADR-12 Drew Satterley (10-Game Disqualification) 11:45

...with nothing for MSOE. No clue what it was all about, but I will say Satterly is built like a truck.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Uhh, yeah.

All holy hell broke loose late in the 3rd period. Smiddy folded like a birthday card when challenged, Soik jumped in between him and Roman as a 3rd man in, and Satterly absolutely beat the tar out of him. Absolute turtle job out of Smiddy. I was disappointed by his actions, especially as a captain. I've got a helluva lot more respect for Soik than I do for Smiddy. Tomorrow will be interesting to see what we get.

Oh, and the final was 6-4.

What'd Smiddy do to get Satterly jumping on him?

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Nevermind - sounds like it was Roman and Smiddy... with Soik and Satterly happening as an offshoot of that.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Either way, hearing MSOE's side, sounds like some serious goonery going on. A couple of marked players on MSOE for the last couple of years, and one of them (King) had his career ended last time they played in Milwaukee by a flying elbow to the head. Another one (Smiddy) has been a marked man for some reason since he came to Milwaukee.

Also, from what I've been told, Smiddy "folded like a birthday card" because he was jumped from behind and couldn't support the body weight of someone jumping on top of him... doesn't really sound like he was "challenged" there. Obviously I only have second hand accounts of the game, but this friend is someone who's very knowledgeable and very objective about this stuff, so I tend to trust his opinions / accounts.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Smiddy got the H e double hockey sticks out off there because he knew he was gonna get a beating. Satterly absolutely blooded that guys face.
