Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

All right. I think we've had enough time to digest everything from the past month. Back to the business at hand.

Northern Lite absolutely nailed it in another thread. I, too, was disappointed by Lawrence on Saturday's game. I was busy being disappointed at another game on Friday, but judging by the score, I likely wouldn't have been any more impressed had I been at Arrington that evening. I honestly was expecting Lawrence to be a better team than what they showed. Adrian shelled Evan Johnson, he of the 7 shutouts last season, and knocked him out of the crease in the 2nd period.

Don't look now, but Marian is in 2nd place. Again. And the only dents in their conference record came at Adrian's hands. Quite frankly, I'm a little surprised, as I thought they might struggle a bit with their goaltending. But here they are again.

We go to Finlandia this weekend, and I'm not sure just how bad they are. We'll see, although I expect Adrian to handle them in somewhat short order.

As these last few weeks of conference play wind down, I don't expect to see much movement. Marian should hang in 2nd. MSOE could overtake Lake Forest. Lawrence are probably scratching their heads tring to figure where they fit in. Lake Forest have a good group of rookies 7 freshmen in their top 10 scorers. I think the future is bright for these guys in the MCHA.

As for Adrian, the three losses to start 2010 are behind them, and hopefully valuable lessons were learned. Lot's of good hockey to look forward to.

Looks like this place will be pretty dull without the Bulldogs in the center of heated ....Pool B/C discussions. Those wonderful, and numerous Adrian threads were just starting to heat up about this time for the past two years. Oh what fun we're going to miss......unless Mitch Albom does a remote story from Arrington... ! ;)

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Yeah, Lawrence really needs to find some positive momentum. Goaltending, which should not have been an issue, has somehow become their greatest concern. Marian, on the other hand, seems to be moving in the opposite direction. These two teams play three more times so things are still a bit up in the air. MSOE, in typical MSOE fashion, will probably have a very strong finish to the season.

At the end of the day, Adrian is still very much the class of the MCHA. I can't imagine that they will have any problems in Hancock this weekend. Hopefully a full season of AQ-inspired recruiting will help compress the top and bottom of the MCHA a bit more in 10/11, and make the conference schedule less anti-climatic for Adrian fans.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

A highly competitive conference schedule complete with rivalries would be great. The sooner this happens, the better.

However, if that evolution doesn't translate into more MCHA victories out of conference, then consideration needs to be given to reducing the 20 game schedule. As it stands, I'd trade 5 MCHA games, for 5 more N/C games likes of which we had this season.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Actuallly Adrian visited for a non-conference game on Jan 8th. They weren't at the Pathfinder. I think MSOE was though.
I heard talk that Adrian will be invited to the Pathfinder in a couple of years.

Pictures were appreciated !
Thanks

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

First of all thank you to the hosts from Oswego and Greene's Ale House. A buddy and I drove over from Adrian and we thought we might get harassed a little bit, but non of that happened. Everyone we met from the forum and Oswego were great, so thanks again. I just wish the outcome would have been a little better. We played well but not well enough to beat an experienced team like Oswego. I just hope more "power" teams will put us on their schedule so we can gain that experience. Go Bulldogs tonight against Finlandia!

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Haha, let's get this thread back to the first page. Congratulations to Shawn Skelly for setting the new point record in the MCHA. Quite an accomplishment to do in under 3 years.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

That is a big accomplishment for him, congrats! He has one more to pad that total so who knows where it will finish.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Man, for being up with 2 goals, they sure did play angry that last 6 minutes or so. They were so looking for another goal today. They looked really perturbed with the idea of winning only 5-3.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

133-Shawn Skelly (61G/72A), Adrian College, 2007-present
130-Josh Paquette (47G/83A), Finlandia University, 2004-2008
120-Lee Swallow (45G/75A), MSOE, 2004-2008

One word. Ridiculous.

I thought we looked terrible for most of the game. That might have been the worst effort I've seen in the 3 years I've watched this team play. If they had played like that against nearly any other team in MCHA, they probably would have lost.

It wasn't the score that bothered me, it was how we got to that score. It was the effort and execution. Sloppiness all the way around. Poor passing, turnovers, poor attention to detail on the defensive side of the puck, and poor goaltending. The third goal that Fogal gave up was flat-out hideous. It was shot from about two counties over, and Fogal didn't react until about 3 seconds after the referee fished it out of the net.

I'm going to say this: MSOE is coming in next weekend, and they're not coming over for cake and ice cream. They're coming to get a piece of Adrian, and if Adrian plays like they did today, they'll get swept.

I agree! They looked very pathetic on Saturday. It seemed that they just took the day off because they won so easily Friday night. I know that this weekend will be a big series, not for the standings but for bragging rights. I heard when they went to MSOE they had some issues with them and I hope they show MSOE that they are the dominate team in the MCHA. Go Dogs!

There will likely be some fireworks when MSOE comes to town after what went on in Milwaukee. Should be entertaining.

Re: Adrian Hockey 2009-10: A New Hope

Yeah, I had a feeling about that. Better to have the airing of the grievances on Friday than Saturday, for both teams' sake. Let's see what mental midget the CCHA sends to Arrington to officiate the games. If it's Sergott, the entire weekend is likely to look like Slapshot. He'll let a series get out of control like an teenager driving a Cadillac on an icy road.

I agree. I think Friday night will see some rough stuff and Saturday should be a little tamer.

That's because everyone might be in suits. On Saturday we might have a problem in the press area instead.

Remember, Sergott and Elder were the two that butchered the Crookston series last year. Sergott was an idiot when he played at Ferris (and I haven't seen much improvement since), and Elder looks like a doe in headlights half the time.
