A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

Prayers of thanksgiving for my roommate who had kidney cancer, had to have one kidney removed, and on his 6 month check is cancer free!

Prayers of thanksgiving for DU's Jesse Martin who walked into a press conference 17 days after he suffered fractures in his C-2 vertebrae in a game against UND. Jesse's doctors say only 1 % of the people who suffer this severe of an injury survive, and only a small % aren't paralyzed. This is as close to a miracle as it comes.

Prayer of thanksgiving. I had surgery last month and went for my post-op appt today. Happy visit. I am doing great and it seems for now as if things are fixed. Yay!

Very nice, beside the normal stuff we all should give thanks for, you can add this:)

Stone's out, stent's out, I feel 100%....Thanks everybody!

On a side note, anybody know the street value for Percocet and Vicodin?! :D

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

I want to extend a request for prayers, good thoughts and good vibes for a friend of mine. He graduated from LSSU a year before me and is a big hockey fan. He may have a username on here but I dont think he posts much if at all really.

He and his wife are expecting their first child (a boy...Kollin) and recently went in for some checkups. After a few tests they found some stuff out. Here is the status update they posted on facebook:

"1. Kollin has a cleft lip and possibly a cleft palate. 2. He has a congenital heart issue where the left ventricle is not as big as it is supposed to be. 3. He has a small omphalocele."

An omphalocele is a type of abdominal wall defect in which the intestines, liver, and occasionally other organs remain outside of the abdomen in a sac because of a defect in the development of the muscles of the abdominal wall.

Its been rough on them. Hopefully things will work out and Kollin will be ok and live a long healthy life.

So anyone who feels so inclined say a prayer or think good thoughts for Andrew and Jenica and their soon to be born baby boy Kollin. I know they would appreciate it as would I.

Well, things got worse. Some recent tests have concluded that baby Kollin has Trisomy 18 also known as Edwards syndrome. I wont go into specifics other than its a chromosomal thing. Chances that he will survive beyond a week or so (if he makes it to term in the first place) are very very slim. If he does he will have some major medical and developmental problems. I cant imagine how difficult this kind of news is for someone. Im sure they could use all the good thoughts, vibes and prayers they can get.

My God! I can't even begin to understand what dealing with that kind of news must be like. :(

:( Any good news?

Given that this is my first Christmas without my mom, I decided to set a place for her at the table on Christmas and leave the seat empty. It's the least I could do...

I havent heard anything in a while to be honest. I know she is still carrying him and they have every intention of going full term. I sent him a message recently. Hopefully hear some news. I know that mom is still working and going to school. I cant remember how far along she is....but it is fairly far.

That is a nice thing to do.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

I always seem to come on here with bad news. So I did want to pass along this. My sister in-law (sisters partner), who just days after my grandpas funeral, had major surgery on her back for caudal equina syndrome. Its a very serious condition that can leave a person paralyzed. She had the surgery at the end of August. Still recovering but doing much better from what I hear. Also if I understand what I am hearing her insurance, which was to take effect the day AFTER she had to have surgery has kicked in and is paying off. My sister got some good seasonal work that helped pay a lot of things but that ended recently and she is looking for work again. Interveiws have been going well...so good thoughts that she gets a good steady job. I will finally get to see them at Christmas and hopefully I will have more complete and good news.

My grandpas widow who fell and broke her hip the day after my sister in-laws sugery (just days after we buried my grandpa) is now living with her daughter and recovering well. She has a lot of spunk for a 90+ year old.

My dad, who I first started this thread about, is in perpetual recovery if that makes sense. I dont feel like he will every fully recover from 2 brain tumors and all the other problems he has had in his life. He has some good days and some not so good days. But everyday we put the tumor(s) farther and farther behind us. This year on Dec 31st we will be celebrating his 60th birthday. I will get the opportunity to be home for that and am quite glad about that.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

I'm sorry about what happend Proud. I'll be thinking of you.

Anyways, I have an update on my little girl. She did the testing and it's not dyslexia. However, the school pyschologist may have hit on something else. She sent home another rating sheet and it was for "Executive Functions." In layperson's terms, it's the process for multiple steps in decision making. My fiance and I went through the list and a lot of what we saw may fit. She doesn't have much of an attention span. She gets emotional when we tell her do something and she doesn't want to do it. She'll go from happy to sad back to happy in a matter of minutes. When one of us call for her to come here, we have to say it three times and then raise or our voice and she will say, "Yeah. mom?" like she didn't even hear us. She cannot keep her room clean or organized despite numerous attempts to assist her. She will leave a trail of toys or papers to her room and back. She'll also act impulsively and not think anything of it.

The root cause of the executive deficiency may be ADD. I just want them to find something so I know how to deal with it. If I knew what I was up against, I could help her with it. I hate this feeling of the unknown. The teacher's have been giving her individual attention and she's already in extra classes to help her. There's been some improvement, but there are still rough patches. I know that she'll only be my step-daughter, but I love her just the same. She's my little girl and I love her to death. I hate seeing the people that I love in pain of any kind.

Thank you leswp1 for your earlier comments. They did help out a lot. Thanks also to Timothy A and gmann for your comments as well.

So glad you posted back and glad what I posted was of some help. I have been thinking about you and your family a lot and saying a prayer or two. Dealing with this stuff is a journey. I ache when I think back but we seem to have come out the other end. What previously was a struggle has worked out.

Hang in there. Kids this age change like quick silver and it can make diagnosing stuff difficult. She is so blessed to have you guys. You are starting early enough that she will be getting assistance and she has parents that love her enough to put in the effort. Knowing that she has that will make such a huge difference!! It is incredibly painful to know your child isn't like everyone else. What ever they decide-- the child is still your child (I know she is a step but she is still yours) and the diagnosis doesn't define the person, only explains some things.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

God works in mysterious ways. He does everything to bring Glory to His name. He gives us challanges to bring us closer to him. We all have problems and live in an imperfect world due to the fall of Adam and Eve. Turn to God, take everything to Him in prayer, and may His will be done, even though His will often times doesn't match our human needs and wants. Perfection awaits His Believers in the next life, we will never see it in this life (unless Christ comes again during our lifetime). My point is, hang in there all, pray every chance you get, and trust God. He loves you.

Sometimes even knowing with complete certainty that God is there is not enough even when I know it should be. I think many of us do all the things that you mention and believe in what you say but (speaking for myself) come to this thread because we are not perfect but only human. No matter how strong my faith is I am only human and sometimes it helps to know that others are praying for me. It also helps me to be part of the collective praying for someone else.

You are 100% right. There's such a great feeling to ask for a prayer to be said at Church, knowing there's 100's of voices praying with you, or in the case of this site, a smaller yet still dedicated group of believers of the Triune God all rowing in the same direction.

I think of my Sister when I think about the post that prompted your fine response, who is pretty much the opposite of me religiously. She is a person who very educated and intelligent, but because she has that much an level of intelligence, she does not accept anything that she herself cannot understand the nuts and bolts of. She won't accept the fact that God is in control; she is a total control freak. She has said she has prayed on occassion, but God didn't answer her prayer, meaning he didn't do what she asked. Clearly, in those cases, God's will wasn't hers. She just can't comprehend that. I ask that we pray for her to come to grips with the power of God and accept his will.
