This is the most interesting quarterfinal series, not just this year, but in many years. You can't count the Vermont v. UNH series last year, because I don't think, going into that series, anybody expected it to be that entertaining (or disappointing).
For one, I am hoping for three physical, high scoring, exhausting games. No injuries, just lots of bruises, so if UNH advances, they play a worn out teamBest of luck to both squads.
In most cases, I would agree with you...but not in this one...MC is a completely different beast of a team when playing at home...add in the fact that they were w/o Da Costa for the series up in Maine...I throw head to head out b/c we really don't know who has the edge there...with full rosters, MC won 7-1 in North Andover...but the Maine team that played then and the one that is playing now is night and day in comparison...Maine has been hot lately and this should be a great series...I don't think it has anything to do with head-to-head or against the top 3...personally, I feel as though it all comes down to who is playing better right now...and unfortunately, Maine has been the hotter team as of late, although it's hard for me to say that when MC's 3 losses in the last 4 games came w/o Da Costa in the lineup...so, a lot to be told this weekend. Should be a great series and I'm so glad they are putting Sat. Night's game on NESN!!
GO MACK!!!
I just think it's funny that the trash-talk is so dead in this thread that it took a random post by probably the most random UNH poster to get even a glimmer of it going.
The best case I can make for Maine is that 2010-11 looks like 2 seasons. They started and ended strong, but when they ran into injury problems in net, they floundered. Of course, even taking that into account, they were a different team at Alfond than away.
Merrimack is enjoying a dream season, and they're at home, so you have to call them favorites. But there are legit causes for concern. The trajectory is not good, and it isn't always easy to flip a switch and get back to form. Speaking of which, it's hard to miss a substantial number of games and then return to the ice like nothing ever happened. It'll be interesting to see how Da Costa does. Merrimack is still a better team with even a 70-80% SDC than they are without him. There's no downside to his return. The question isn't so much whether he gives them a boost - it's how much.
I dunno. We'll all find out when the puck drops.
Furste I gots nutting against Merrimacks. Mais dey overrated. If one a da Big 4 finsih forf wit turty five pointe moste people be saying yeah big deal ou even oof not greate year pour dem, eh. Mais because it Merrimacks et it a new ting people tend to get more excited et ovurrate it. I not saying dey bad, juste overrated. Specially cuz one da teams dey all excited bout beating is even more overrated den dey are, UNHs.
Mais I is saying dat Merrimacks OOC schedule is a joke. What, was d’Home Pour Leetle Wandereurs Pee Wee Selects busy dis year?
all i gud du sey is dat yur is a joke.
SDC looked ok to me on friday....3pts
He's already back? Shows how much attention I'm paying this year.
Still, apples and oranges. PC was already eliminated.
PC makes the playoffs if Maine beats UMass Saturday, they weren't eliminated until the conclusion of that game
Little known fact: Maine is the second most penalized team in HE league play. For the season, MC's powerplay % is 20.8% vs 17.6% for ME. I guess MC must not have any skilled players (Cucci with a league-leading 9 powerplay goals, and 3 others with 5 or more; Dimman leads ME with 4). If MC's powerplay guys show up, that could be a game changer.Little known fact: Merrimack is the most penalized team in the nation. Maine's power play is at 23 percent the last ten games. If Maine's skilled guys show up, thats a possible gamebreaker.
Not sure I'm sold on Merrimack once they leave Lawler for the Garden (especially if they draw BC in the semis)... but I'm taking the team with the good goalie, good coach, and home ice in this series.
Couldn't agree with you more. I don't know a single Merrimack fan that wants to draw BC at the Garden. I'm hoping NU knocks off BU.
