#5 Maine vs #4Merrimack HEA quarterfinals

Re: #5 Maine vs #4Merrimack HEA quarterfinals

I think this boils down to Cannata. That article in the Eagle Tribune stating that he deserves the Hobey might have gotten into his head.
It was right after that article that he became a completely different player.

Blaine Lacher was a great goalie until he started doubting himself, then he sold cars.

I hope for Cannata's sake that's not true. Who knows though. I mean the Twitter feed on the E-T Web site still says Merrimack leads 3-2 over Providence in the second period so anything is possible. At least Larry doesn't tweet, and Lenzi finishes games.

Re: #5 Maine vs #4Merrimack HEA quarterfinals

I think it all comes down to motivation for Merrimack. Saturday's game was more or less meaningless (I'm starting to convince myself I like the Maine matchup better than NE anyway) and SDC didn't dress. Nobody wanted to get a concussion or a misconduct in a meaningless game. In my opinion with the debatable exception of the series up in Maine, Merrimack has not failed to show up for big games (BC, BU, UNH, televised home game).

3 games, and someone goes to the garden bruised as hell.

Good to see NESN pick up this game Friday. I figured they'd go the easy route with BU/NU...

Re: #5 Maine vs #4Merrimack HEA quarterfinals

I disagree with that... The team who stays discipline will win the series, plain and simple. Cut the bs after the whistle in front of net and just play. I am all for getting into the opponents head but do that during play.

I'll take that bet.
The refs are not gonna call the crap after the whistle, even matching minors.

At Amherst, UMass ran Sullivan, Cornell grabbed the guy with a chokehold from behind, and slammed him to the ice (by the neck)... no calls at all....

Merrimack is going to continue their "after the whistle" garbage, and Maine is not going to be able to handle it and retaliate in kind... maine is going to go overboard and get called for it. This has been the Whitehead way for 10 years... Instead of taunting just up to the point of getting called --like BU and UNH and NU and MC, Maine puts up with it and does not play that game... and then they snap.

I just hope not to see Bunyon this weekend...

for anyone interseted... the MC ticket office is unable to sell tickets because their internet is down...
did anyone else find this? or is the online service with the service fee up and running?

I just spoke to someone in the athletic office at Merrimack who informed me that there are only single seats remaining for both games so hope you got your tickets.

I've got tix for all 3 games. Some alumni email I received told of an alumni section, so wherever that is, that's where I will be. Wouldn't miss this for the world.

Saturday's game meant the difference between finishing in 3rd or 4th place, and facing Maine or NU.
I suppose you're right... about as meaningless as a semifinal game at the Garden. Winning it don't mean nuttin'. ;) :p

Agreed. That could prove to be a costly loss to PC. No excuse for it.

I wish I could be in two places at once (hey I can watch saturday thanks to American Least hoops!) this should be a fantastic series, I hope the mack students get into it and make it loud in there.

I'm not sure I see you're point for posting the OOC stuff...there is plenty more to go by in analyzing IN conference stuff since each team plays eachother 3 times....

Here's the two team's records against the top 3 teams in the conference

and the most revealing stat would be head to head....

In most cases, I would agree with you...but not in this one...MC is a completely different beast of a team when playing at home...add in the fact that they were w/o Da Costa for the series up in Maine...I throw head to head out b/c we really don't know who has the edge there...with full rosters, MC won 7-1 in North Andover...but the Maine team that played then and the one that is playing now is night and day in comparison...Maine has been hot lately and this should be a great series...I don't think it has anything to do with head-to-head or against the top 3...personally, I feel as though it all comes down to who is playing better right now...and unfortunately, Maine has been the hotter team as of late, although it's hard for me to say that when MC's 3 losses in the last 4 games came w/o Da Costa in the lineup...so, a lot to be told this weekend. Should be a great series and I'm so glad they are putting Sat. Night's game on NESN!!

GO MACK!!!

Re: #5 Maine vs #4Merrimack HEA quarterfinals

This is the most interesting quarterfinal series, not just this year, but in many years. You can't count the Vermont v. UNH series last year, because I don't think, going into that series, anybody expected it to be that entertaining (or disappointing).

For one, I am hoping for three physical, high scoring, exhausting games. No injuries, just lots of bruises, so if UNH advances, they play a worn out team :-) Best of luck to both squads.
