2nd Term Part XI; Year 8, Part 1... Electioneering and Lame Ducking

Re: 2nd Term Part XI; Year 8, Part 1... Electioneering and Lame Ducking

Wow, when did I get that high of a rank...

I probably posted it in the campaign thread, but there certainly have been some questions surrounding what if Hillary wins the EC, but dies from these ailments prior to being able to take office...

No, no, no. She's much more ill than that.

Kep, what about between now and November 8?

That's trickier. There is no statutory guidance because there really can't be. A nominee is just beholden to the rules of the party which is itself just a private club. The Democratic party by-laws say the DNC decides. The DNC could do anything it wanted to, in theory.

If you're going to try to argue the GOP is the protector of the 99%, ...

Not a chance.
I'm just intrigued that the "1%" has gone from 35% to 40% of wealth holding under Mr. Obama. I thought he was all about the 99%.

Compared to what?

If you're going to try to argue the GOP is the protector of the 99%, first let me enjoy a sip of this clean, healthy, water...
They're not. But then they don't claim to be either.

It's kind of like that whole "family values" hypocrisy you like to throw in the face of Republicans.

As a huge convert to Thomas Frank's political theories, you'll probably enjoy this.

Well I guess the first thing would be: source?

Somebody ran an article about this over the weekend. The party chooses the nominee, even if the ballot process has closed in that state.

Uncle "Landslide" Joe is dusting off the resume.

I don't disagree. There's a reason I backed Bernie over Hillary. However this is the best we can do for now.

The GOP is an instructive example. There, the kooks who were manipulated and lied to have captured the party apparatus. As a lefty kook, that gives me some ideas for the DNC...

It's more along the lines of this, Flaggy.

The Colonel Samuel Flagg character is a careful CIA Agent whose area of assignment includes the 4077th MASH unit on the CBS television series M*A*S*H, played by actor Edward Winter.

Col. Flagg is a U.S. Military Intelligence agent. His behavior is rather careless and irrational, and he appears to the staff of the 4077th to be a paranoid over methodical military man...

During Flagg's visits (to MASH 4077), in the first three seasons (1972-75), he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Afterwards, for the rest of the series (1975-83), he held the rank of Colonel. Interestingly, his rank was the same with each MASH 4077 commanding officer: Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake & later Colonel Sherman Potter. In his first appearance, as an Army Captain(under an alias), Flagg has the same rank as the Officer of the Day, Captain Hawkeye Pierce. In his last appearance he wears the DSI of the US Army Finance Corps.

As a CIA operative, Flagg may not have actual military rank. "Colonel Flagg" could be his military alias, with his rank equivalent to the highest-ranking person with whom he is expected to meet.

I assume they didn't teach about the assumption of negative cases in the Ivy League theatre? ;)

Barry and Bill 2016.

Pretty sure the 22nd amendment disqualifies that one. Although, that would be quite the roll of the dice on the left getting the House of Representatives... then the "speaker" would become acting President, appoint someone (likely really radical) in accordance with the 25th amendment, then resign to retain the speaker post (although I don't recall the rules on holding more than one post simultaneously), and then you get someone that no one voted for, just like Ford...

Real tax reform will bring it back down. The Middle Class grew under high progressive taxation and it shrank under Reagan-and-after low taxation.

Sometimes the truth is simple. The brainwashing of an entire generation of non-wealthy conservatives foisted a fiscal policy on all of us that merely moved middle class private wealth into wealthy private pockets. We've known how to reverse that for three decades; we just don't have the votes. Someday, we will. It's only a matter of how much damage the plutes can continue to do, and how much longer they can fool their foot soldiers before they get wise.

But eventually the non-wealthy right is going to figure it out. And they are going to be EXTREMELY angry.

Well, I also rolled up more math and CS credits than most majors, so I'm fairly confident in my application of logic. ;)

Re: 2nd Term Part XI; Year 8, Part 1... Electioneering and Lame Ducking

Pretty sure the 22nd amendment disqualifies that one.

There's a problem with the 22nd Amendment.

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

Doesn't say anything about succeeding to the office in the event of removal of the president. So while the 12th Amendment says "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice President of the United States," it is not clear whether persons ineligible for election are by extension ineligible for service by any means of succession.

I would argue it has to or the 22nd is absurd, but since it has never been tested it has never been decided.
