New Wall Street Journal/NBC News polling data

In all, 63% of Americans in the poll say that failure to raise the debt ceiling would pose “a real and serious problem,” while just 15% said it wouldn’t be a serious problem. The rest had no opinion.

The poll did find disparities among partisan groups in how seriously they took the debt ceiling. Just 3% of Democrats, and 17% of independents, said a failure to raise the ceiling would not be a problem, while 29% of Republicans—and 33% of tea-party supporters, held that view.

The poll of 800 Americans, conducted between Monday and Wednesday, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points. The full results of the poll will be released at 6:30 p.m.

Word is slowly circulating around Twitter that a 6-week compromise has been reached on the debt ceiling. So our the global economy is now at the whim of Punxatawney Phil.

So, that means even the GOP is afraid of default. What about all those House Reps who don't believe in that? What about Rand, he must be going ape over this revelation?

The sentiment was echoed by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), who said Obama's willingness to antagonize Republicans is "not good for the country."

Wilson is perhaps best known for heckling the president during a speech to a joint session of Congress. He's the guy complaining about Obama antagonizing him.

So, the guy who called Obama a liar during a high profile televised speech thinks it's Obama who's antagonizing him? Based on that logic it doesn't seem so far fetched that Medicare/Medicaid is entirely privatized does it?

I'm not sure The Boner can get a 6 week extension passed without Dem votes which they will only supply if he funds the gubmint. Dems had the right message which was lets see what he can get passed through the House first before we comment on it.

Reid isn't going to let it get through the Senate. The deal was we'll negotiate if you raise the ceiling and open the gov't. If they don't do that then not only have the Dems caved to Ryan's number but they've caved to these BS theatrics.

Do any knuckledraggers or Teabagger terrorists still think the shutdown was a good idea? Anybody heard from Ted Cruz lately?

It has occurred to me, hence my comments on the matter. What you said here is totally true. So why should the Senate, the President and the Supreme Court change their mind on the Affordable Health Care Act simply because the House refuses to do anything until they do?

If it's to be addressed through State legislation, let the States try to pass laws. And if the courts won't let that happen, they can sue and take it to the Supreme Court. In fact, those things have already happened. None of that really gives the House an excuse to try to go Galt, or whatever they're trying to accomplish (do they even know at this point?).

Well, their job is to pass a budget. If their current budget proposal won't pass, they need to find a new idea or put it to committee. In either case, perhaps they should do their job, instead of sitting around and pouting because they can't unilaterally gut the Affordable Health Care Act.

So Faux "News" has been pumping this truckers' shutdown that's going to show up in DC today to call for Obama to resign. They trumpeted that 10000 truckers were expected, which would bring traffic in Washington to a halt.

It would be nice if the media learned something that the rest of us already know, which is that there are a lot, lot, lot less conservatives in the country than the press seems to think there are. One has to wonder why idiocy like this even gets coverage.
