Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

I for one find it ironic that this shutdown movement from the house majority currently rivals the Occupy movement for providing a cohesive message.

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

Boehner has stepped up his demands to include the Sun rising in the South and oil drilling at Old Faithful.

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

I have a question for the huff-and-puffers: What are their feelings about gun ownership and marijuana transport? These, after all, are the law of the land.

Did the huff-and-puffers shutdown the government over those laws?

So it's only because of a "shutdown" that determines its acceptance? I'm trying to figure this out, because your ilk keep saying that PPACA is the law of the land and we should "Deal with it". What I'm pointing out is that there are other things your ilk don't like, but are also the "law of the land", and yet states seem to be taking unconstitutional action to thwart it instead of "dealing with it". I'm also referring to something that was said over a year before this "shutdown", so it's quite valid.

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

Obama invites GOP to talk, GOP can't even decide who to send.

In a sign of the mistrust between the White House and Republicans, the two sides could not even agree on the guest list for the talks in the White House’s Roosevelt Room.

Obama invited every Republican House member to the session, part of series of chats with every member of both parties in each chamber of Congress.

But Republicans, charging that Obama had no intention of serious negotiations, said only party leaders, and not the rank and file of their restive caucus, would show up at the White House.

What would happen if some Republican House member who ISN'T part of the leadership group showed up at the White House anyway? I mean, the president invited them all, so why shouldn't they all show up?

"If you know what's good for you, Mr. Junior Senator, you stay away from this meeting and only let us Senior Leadership attend. Follow the party line and we'll back your re-election campaigns for years. And once you help us defeat this 'Obamacare' we'll pass your unnessecary pork barrel transportation bill for your home district. Because you want to be like us someday, right?"

...Or maybe I've seen too much "West Wing" and "House of Cards."

Normally you'd be right, but this leadership group doesn't have any power, especially now that the Koch Brothers and other big donors have said to knock it off and get back to work. If you could be the Republican that brokered a deal (Peter King?) you would be a hero to many in the party and you wouldn't really have to concern yourself with what the current "leadership" thought.

If they don't have any power, why is the country under a "shutdown"?

They have had the power, and some of them may again, but at the moment the GOP seems leaderless. You had their alleged leader float the notion of a Grand Bargain and the Democrats (and probably Republicans too) laughed at him because there is no way he can deliver that. The GOP needs to decide who is in charge (Cantor? Ryan? King? Someone else?) and try dealing anew.

Sarah Palin is running things. Of that there is no doubt.

Screw that story. The one that site is featuring on "The Jesus Conspiracy" being an operation spearheaded by the Roman foreign intelligence apparatus is far more interesting.

Intriguing. I was leaning towards Michelle Bachmann's End Of Days schtick previously....;)

I just don't think John Boner keeping his job is worth throwing the economy into weeks of uncertainty. Either depose him for someone who isn't worried about losing his job if Teabaggers disagree with him over this issue (Paul Ryan for example) or depose him for someone like Peter King who will temporarily rule with moderates + Dems. Either way The Boner must go.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure." - Sen. Obama, 3/16/06

Sounds about right. As soon as the Republicans in the House figure out who their leader really is (it sure isn't the Orange One) we might get somewhere.

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

I already told you who the leader is. Sarah Palin.

She wasn't elected to anything. Ted Cruz is in the Senate. They may be pulling the strings, but who is their Pinocchio? And what happens if Peter King or one of the other moderates makes his own deal with the Democrats? They're left with a useless toy while a Democratic agenda passes the House.

Peter King being called a moderate makes me sick. He's psychotic on Middle East policy. Every time he appears on a national talk show and chants Muslim I want to puke.
