I'm sure you complained when every other president took a vacation, right?

Does anybody who isn't spending 100 bucks a week on band-aids for their fingers from dragging them along the ground really care what it costs for the President to go on vacation? Whenever I hear something like this I start laughing because clearly the OUTRAGE OF THE DAY!!!! crowd has run out of ideas.

Because the Middle East is incapable of taking care of itself...

(Posted here because ****ed if some people aren't going to blame this one on Obama)

Dale Dye, the actor and technical advisor, once told me about his last Marine assignment: PIO for the Leathernecks in Lebanon. A higher ranking officer asked his opinion. Dale said he told the guy "I've only been here a couple of weeks." To which the guy said, "you know as much about this as anyone else." Incidentally, non of Dale's Marine journalists died when the barracks was blown up. He had assigned them to live with the grunts they were reporting on, rather than dropping in for visits. I'm guessing the b*tching turned into gratitude instantly.

Heads explode throughout the south as G. Zimmerman rescues family of four from overturned SUV; Obama orders drone strike.

He also wants to make oral sex a crime.

As long as the love consists of sex in the missionary position between a married man and woman for the purpose of producing a child. Otherwise, you should probably go someplace other than Virginia.

I've never understood why the postal service still does doorstep delivery. Such a complete waste.

My favorite quote was (from a separate CNN story):
"It's madness," said Jim Sauber, chief of staff for the National Association of Letter Carriers. "The idea that somebody is going to walk down to their mailbox in Buffalo, New York, in the winter snow to get their mail is just crazy."

I have always had cluster mailbox delivery. We've been doing it in Minnesota for as long as I've been alive. Against all odds, we've somehow survived the Minnesota winters having to get our mail from across the street. I think it's absolutely stunning that some people think taking a step outside is such a great burden.

Only had cluster mailbox delivery when I was living in apartments in Grand Forks. Every house I've lived in has been door to door, even in Minnesota. If I wanted to drive somewhere to get my mail, I'd get a PO Box.

If this bill passes, you will be protected from voting in North Carolina.

RALEIGH, N.C.—Around 6 p.m. at yesterday's Moral Monday rally, Democrats from the state legislature told activists that the voter ID bill they were there to protest had been altered. At 2 p.m. Tuesday (today), they'd get to see the new, omnibus "voter protection" bill that Republicans had jawed about for weeks.

Josh Stein helpfully put the details on his Facebook page:

The bill now does the following:

*shortens early voting by 1 week,
*eliminates same day registration and provisional voting if at wrong precinct,
*prevents counties from offering voting on last Saturday before the election beyond 1 pm,
*prevents counties from extending poll hours by one hour on election day in extraordinary circumstances (like lengthy lines),
*eliminates state supported voter registration drives and preregistration for 16/17 year olds,
*repeals voter owned judicial elections and straight party voting,
*increases number of people who can challenge voters inside the precinct, and
*purges voter rolls more often.

Meanwhile, it floods the democratic process with more money. The bill makes it easier for outside groups to spend on electioneering and reduces disclosure of the sources. It also raises the contribution limits to $5k per person per election from $4k and indexes to amount to rise with inflation.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Any guesses as to the skeletons in his closet?

"A cardinal rule of politics: never get caught in bed with a live man or a dead woman."

Edwin Edwards' lasting contribution to American politics (although he said "boy"). The other Edwards contribution was the bumper sticker in his gubernatorial race against David Duke: Vote for the crook. It's important. Colorful is really supremely inadequate in describing the dude. I was in a reception at the Mansion once and he began hitting (very hard) on a beautiful reporter. . .with her husband standing right there. He was a high stakes gambler. And he would occasionally call people who did business with the state from Vegas, asking them for "loans." When Ed Bradley asked him on "60 Minutes" if it was true he was selling seats on the state Highway Commission for 10K, he responded that as he recalled, it was only 5K. If Louisiana didn't exist, we'd have to invent it.

IIRC an interview with a voter during that race. "Edwin brings money into the state. So what if he takes a little for himself". :D
