Re: 2nd Term Part 4: Donkeys, Elephants, and Porcupines

Our Christian nation has its fair share of crimes. So where is this overwhelming correlation of criminal activity and Islam. So how many of the eight million American Muslims are criminal or terrorists?

I'm confident you're just trolling now. Nobody could be that stupid.

I'm not debating anything.

I've exaggerated a bit but the scenario isn't that outlandish and the scenario of why a company cares what you look/dress/smell like is accurate.

Plenty of google results for HR people trying to solve the "my employee smells" issue.

Might not be common at law firms etc. but service jobs, call centers, big retail etc...plenty of issues you'd swear could never happen.

I know that it can happen, but it's not typically going to happen upon first contact. I have managed a telephony group based environment before and know that typical worker. Never had a run in with someone so disheveled or smelly that I had to be forced to consider it as a factor. If it only materialized after the hiring occurred it would be brought up in private without question. It's not a matter of judgement, it's a matter of it impacting the work environment for co-workers.

I said I was exaggerating a bit...I've encountered a bit of everything over the years and don't recall how many times a poorly dressed or unkempt person ended up being turned down. Lets use the more obvious ones...too much makeup, too little clothing, the borrowed from dad clothes etc. Not reasons for straight TD but are contributors...those people often don't have enough experience, don't communicate well or some other more common turndown reason.

As Pursuit of Happyness demonstrated, there can be extenuating circumstances, but odds are if the person has issues being presentable at the interview, it will only get worse when you get to day-to-day.

Remember, the original point was hiring someone regardless of how they looked etc. That is a quaint notion, but I've not met anyone with experience who would make such a claim.

I'd hire Republicans! Many of them are very good at making money. :)

Like Curt Schilling? How abotu the trailer-trash in flyover country? Republicans generally represent the lower dregs of society. If they knew how to make money, they would have done so.

One of the best op-ed I've read in while:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/351120/big-politically-correct-brother-mark-steyn

"And thus, the bozo leviathan blunders on. Big Politically Correct Brother sees everything . . . and nothing."

Steyn's great. I've posted about TSA morons many times. We've been talking about HR. Who, on earth, would hire any of these people to do anything? The all time dumbest thing was the hassle they gave the late Joe Foss. War hero, governor, commissioner of the AFL. He was stopped from bringing a "dangerous object" on a flight. The "dangerous object?" His Medal of Honor!

Just head on down to the welfare office. With the rest of Little Dick's beloved lofo voters. And don't worry about bringing an ID. It would be "racist" to ask.

Well, those things do have sharp edges :p

Isn't it a hassle to get those TSA jobs? I remember looking at the qualifications when the job originated but decided it wasn't for me. Did they change the requirements or what? For a job that looked difficult to get there are an awful lot of stupid people doing it.

Fair enough.

Yeah, he could have used it as a ninja throwing star. Maybe the fact that they're unionized now has something to do with standards.

When the job is as repetitive as it is, but failures abound, you have to wonder if the training could be better. I suspect it could benefit from a major overhaul. Just because a high school diploma is all you have, doesn't make you a moron.

Of course. It's the union's fault. I should have guessed.

Looking through the website, I see another reason the TSA lowers standards...these jobs are in the middle of nowhere. Yakutat, Kodiak and Bethel in Alaska; Huron, Watertown and Aberdeen in South Dakota; Minot, Willistown, Dickinson and Devil's Lake in North Dakota; Alliance and Grand Island in Nebraska etc. Who the hell wants to work in Yakutat, wherever that is? They do have an opening in Guam though...that would be an interesting location.

I have an aunt, retired from delivery for the Postal Service, who works as a TSA agent at the Marathon Key airport. As you might imagine, the work in the Keys is gravy. She and her husband (my blood uncle) have spent he past 6-7 years barely affording to live at a house they built on Big Pine Key. They're currently trying to sell for $$$$$$, so they can buy a motor home and spend their last years traveling the country.

Not you. Ever. Unions are good! Just ask Jock Yablonski. Or any of the various Teamsters presidents who spent time in prison. Or Victor Riesel.
