Item from article on Vito Lopez, who resigned his office due to multiple sexual harrassment claims. After several previous claims had been quieted via payments.

Mr. Lopez, 71, was first elected to the Assembly in 1984. After resigning, he will continue to receive an annual pension of $64,634.28, which he began collecting in 2011 through a loophole that allows some lawmakers to receive a legislative salary and a pension simultaneously.

People always say to me "hey Rover, maybe you're a little mean to those poor old conservatives". And hey, sometimes I think perhaps they have a point...UNTIL I see something like this:

So, lets be clear about this. The GOP nominee for the top law enforcement post in Virginia wanted to force women who miscarry to report it to police within 24 hours OR face a year in jail?!?!? Yeah. I'm going to assume that USCHO righties (joecct, Opie, Flaggy, Fishy, Patman, big_blue, etc) aren't on board with this Talibanesque policy, but one has to wonder why your team keeps nominating candidates like this to represent you in elective office.

Cripes! Who said it was about El Presidente!?!?!??

Fast & Furious was/is controversial. It appears that a DOJ official leaked a documents to Fox (!!!) to undermine a F&F leaker. It has nothing to do with El Presidente, but our Attorney General appears to be caught in quicksand.

So far, nothing has come close to the "High Crimes & Misdemeanors" standard that the Constitution requires to impeach a public official. I strongly disagree with this Administration and its policies, but until they start suspending parts of the Constitution for political gain, I acknowledge, but don't like, the results of the last presidential election.

Do I wish 44 would be a bit more forthcoming and open, particularly about his past? Sure. But other presidents have had skeletons, too.

We're getting too focused on personality and not the issues.

Listen to right wing talk radio nowadays, as I do purely for my own amusement, and you'll hear to continuing themes. 1) Our freedoms are under attack, and 2) The way of life you've always known is changing. I catch the Mark Levin show sometimes and I can't think of a positive thing the guy has ever had to say. You can view sitting GOP congresspeople the same way (Steve King, Michelle Bachmann, etc). Wouldn't you think somebody would hold a press conference and take credit for a reducing deficit? I've yet to see that happen.

So, posters out here can revert back to the same old tired "oh both sides do it" mantra. A true but intellectually lazy statement. Simply put one side, conservatism, has morphed from Morning In America optimism to black helicopter conspiracy theories. Its odd because over 20 years ago I first came across Rush Limbaugh on TV as he had a show on the local Fox affiliate maybe on weekends before the 1992 election. The guy was reasonably amusing without being a raging lunatic. One has to wonder if he's changed himself, or if he's changed to fit his audience? I'm guessing the second one.

Hmmmm, I always thought "southern strategy" was tactic by which Democrats nominated moderate liberals to be president (Adlai Stevenson) who selected segregationists as their running mates. John Sparkman, D Lynchem, and Estes Kefauver, D Separate but equal.

We all understand the Rover Theorem: a closeted gay congressman who thinks about, but never does have sex with male congressional pages is despicable. Because he's a hypocrite (preaching family values). While a congressman who actually does cornhole teenage pages is not despicable. Presumably because he never condemned pedophilia. Sadly, he had to be voted out of office because he was no longer legislatively effective. So the "crime" is hypocrisy. Not taking advantage of teenagers entrusted to his care.

It really all started with the Three-Fifths Compromise. Most everything stems from that.

The point is, for generations, those white racists were Democrats. Governors, senators, congressmen, mayors, sheriffs, police chiefs, etc. etc. With nary a whimper from the leadership of the party. But when they became Republicans, boy howdy, that's a scandal. The Democrats had a southern strategy, just a different one. Bull Connor wasn't a Republican. Neither were Orval Faubus, Lester Mattox, George Wallace, et al.

There should be criteria for launching an IRS investigation of a group other than "I don't like their name." Or "these people oppose us."* Probable cause might be a good place to start. The significance of this episode is illustrated by the growing number of Democrats who are side stepping away from Little Dick, so they can get beyond the blast radius.

*As I recall it, Marc Rich didn't hate government. In fact, he knew half a million bucks, more or less, in the right hands, would get him a presidential pardon. What's not to like? That tower of legal rectitude Eric Holder agreed.

And the further point is, after the 60's and the Dems heroic leadership on civil rights, all the racists found a home in....you guessed, the GOP! Do me a favor and review Jesse Helms greatest hits and get back to us.

Also, I'm not sure what your obsession is with sexual relations between consenting parties, but you do realize not being able to tell the difference between consensual and non consensual contact (Studds vs Foley) will get you a listing on a sex offender registry, right Opie?
