24 - Day 8 - Jack Bauer Takes on NYC

Re: 24 - Day 8 - Jack Bauer Takes on NYC

I'm a little confused - how long after last season is this season supposed to take place? Was Renee's interaction with the Russian mob after all the drama from last season?

I'm not exactly sure. Long enough for the President to have had an acrimonious divorce. Long enough for Kim to have had a daughter who is now, what, 3 or 4 years old? (She hadn't already had the kid last year, had she?)

thats the way jack just made it seem. but she was definitely fired in the last one (though she claimed to have quit this season); not to mention jack said that she left the fbi after interrogating that guy in the hospital.

however, did kim have a daughter in the last one??

You canwatch online at fox.com. That's where I caught the first two hrs.

That trailer trash chick's former bf, the "we need a younger, less Italian Ray liotta" is just stupid. Why are we being made to put up with him? Will he end up fighting the swarmy co-worker who keeps hitting on trailer trash?!?

I hope they both get wiped out with a stinger missile.

If I remember correctly on last week's episode they said that Renee had infiltrated the Russian mob 6 years ago which means it happened prior to last season. Kim did have the daughter last season, they showed her in one scene when she called home to her husband.

Section VII, Subsection LL, Rule 7.3: "Every season of 24 will have a superfluous storyline that does nothing to improve the actual story and will serve only as an annoyance and possibly an artificial plot forwarding device."

I thought it was 8 months after last season

I don't think they'd be able to fill 24 hours if there weren't any side plots. The question is whether they will eventually tie the plotlines together.

Yes, and her name was 'Teri'.

Cut to this season...didn't Kim call her 'Amy' in ep 1?

Anyway...Good stuff so far. I like how Renee avoided duplicating the Jack/Chase wrist release from a few seasons back, and instead of hacking through the arm, just trimmed down the side of the hand enough for it to slip through. ;)

have you seen damages? thats all they do is tie subplots together... i can barely follow it. of course they jump back and forth between time periods to ease their transitions. still a good show though.

Re: 24 - Day 8 - Jack Bauer Takes on NYC

The series timeline of 24 was discussed in a reader letter published in this week's TMQ column:
I noted that on "24," Jack Bauer saves critical minutes by traveling during commercials. Kevin Woods of Santa Rosa, Calif., provides further details on time dilation in the series: "In the first season, in 2001, Jack was a highly successful federal agent with a 15-year-old daughter. Although Jack's age was never stated, he had to be at least 40. He was a college graduate who had received his master's in criminology, then joined the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of captain in the prestigious Delta Squad. After the Army, he worked for Los Angeles SWAT team, then joined the CIA in its clandestine wing. After this, he was recruited to the CTU, the mysterious agency where Jack toils when the series begins. Jack had to be 40 when the series began.

"Let's assume 43. Here is where the time line gets tough. Season 2 was 18 months after season 1, making Jack 44-45. Season 3 was three years after season 2, making Jack about 47-48. Season 4 was 18 months after season 3, making Jack about 50. Season 5 was 18 months after season 4, making Jack about 52. Season 6 was 20 months after season 5, making Jack about 54. 24-Redemption, a two-hour movie that supposedly tied things together, was four years after season 6, making Jack about 58. Season 7, happening shortly after Redemption, still has Jack at around 58. Season 8, looks to be two-three years after season 8, because Jack's grand-daughter is seen having conversations with him, making Jack around 60 years [old]. He's quite spry for 60! Also, add up the years and it is now 2014 in the series. Maybe that explains all the CTU super-technology that does not seem to exist in our reality."

Re: 24 - Day 8 - Jack Bauer Takes on NYC

I've only watched night one, but need to get a few things off my chest:

With all the good actors out there, why can't 24 find any of them. Seriously. And have we come up with a clever nickname for the blonde poser, that I'm pretty sure is a guy? She. Is. Awful.

Watching this show is kind of like still dating that girl you know you should have dumped a month ago. You've come this far... :)

Re: 24 - Day 8 - Jack Bauer Takes on NYC

OMG psycho Renee!

When she stabbed Jack in the stomach, I thought, "Great. Now they are going to play out Jack bleeding to death for a few hours while the story slowly ticks along for a few boring episodes."

Nope, Jack decides a knife to the gut is no biggie. Throws some gauze and tape over it, all the while consoling Renee and coming up with a cover story to keep her out of trouble.

JFC. This show is so ridiculous. But I keep watching like a nice little lemming.
