Hit in the back of the neck with the puck.If there is already a thread, apologies. I didn't see one.
Any idea what happened to Hutson? At the game he seemingly just went down almost on his own, no replay ever shown
TBF, watching a teammate being stretchered off probably wasn’t very inspiring. Also doesn’t help that the Swiss typically play a very defensive, 90’s-esque style. That was a pretty crap game, honestly. The Swiss did look better than Germany did, but not a lot of inspired play from the US.
How do the crowds look? If I had the time available, I’d love to make a game or two at the X.
This post is why I love the Cafe.I have a LOT of stories so far, but I won't share much until after the tourney ends. A few things:
Canada is really firm on the boycott. I admire it. I've talked to a bunch who all mentioned how many refuse to come here, and I respect it. I've met some of the families of players and they're great.
Some canadians are really astroturfing online tho, making straight up lies. The crying today about the german team wearing practice gear on the bus was wild - it was REQUIRED the teams to bus today due to the shitstorm outside. Every team has a perfectly fine locker room at the arena, but some have to practice at the wild practice rink.
If Canada wanted a better locker room, they should have won more last year. Finland had first pick, and of course they picked the gopher men's room.
Most of these teams and federations are incredibly kind people.
I've had to watch many of the games (its a rough job) and I'm not that impressed with the US or Canada. Seems wide open.
and to the dane and czech kids who were so excited to see the snow today, i hope they got out and had a good snowball fight.
Can't blame them. I can confirm Canadians aren't in Maine either. I see very few, like once in a blue moon Canadian license plate, where normally you see them all year long. Pretty common in Northern Maine to have family on both sides of the border, not sure how thats working out but I know traffic is way down on Maine side of borders. The Comments. Brutal.
god bless, I hope this holds up for World cupAmerika done FAFOed.
the worst part? Latvia played their asses off that game and came soooo close to winning. The Comments. Brutal.
It won't, but one can dream.god bless, I hope this holds up for World cup
the profile of the english hooligan coming over has a large, large overlap with your ICE recruitIt won't, but one can dream.
The attendance being down is overblown. It is too bad that MN will end up paying for it. Hard to see us getting another any time in the next century. Attendance would likely have been a bit down compared to a Detroit, Buffalo, or Seattle regardless, but politics I’d bet is the death knell.
What’s funny is that the cities these games are taking place in are likely more progressive than the towns most of the Canadian players come from.
It’s fascinating watching the media beat around the bush on this, especially TSN. It’s pretty clear that Canadians aren’t traveling and tickets are too expensive for the average Minnesotan to consider attending (though the “I thought Minnesota was the ‘State of Hockey’?” comments are absolutely true). The Comments. Brutal.
Good point. A quick look at the numbers from previous tournaments shows that attendance numbers aren’t far off from Sweden or Halifax. The attendance being down is overblown.
The average attendance last year was just over 10k per game.
So far in 2026 it's just over 6k despite the fact most Canadians have stayed home. The organizers aren't stupid and they know this. I also expect attendance to improve as interested fans learn ticket prices are now not as unreasonable as they were before the tournament started.
