2026 Winter Olympics

Th

Simms is the reason I have a hard time taking Badger fans' sanctimony over Murphy seriously.
Watt?? ??????? What??????? Sure thy jest!

I too believe that the pwhl could expand by two more teams. There is plenty of talent out there. Let's get some more of these ladies employed playing the game they love.

Probably the only way to attempt to deal with the talent disparity between North America and the world is the pwhl. Long-Term, it probably gives European players exposure to more talented opponents than staying in Europe. They could do something crazy like say x percent of their players have to be Europeans.

Yes, I realize that it is speciesist to argue that not all Badgers are gilded angels. You guys really need to develop some self-awareness about your own players. Believe it or not, I've watched Simms play.

Poulin on hat trick watch in this semi final vs the Swiss.

Probably no one wants to hear that the Swiss have 3 shots late in the 2nd.

Watts Poulin and Fillier is a fun line. The only line?
I think Clark and Nurse are continuing their Wisconsin heritage of looking great on paper and against cupcakes but not producing anything on the ice when it really counts. Maybe Nurses is still hurt, I don't know.

2022-23: Murphy leads the WCHA in penalty minutes, with 59 minutes; Simms 18th, with 25 minutes ( while playing two more games)

2023-24: Murphy leads the WCHA in penalty minutes, with 118 minutes (no, that is not a typo); Simms 20th, with 24 minutes

2024-25: Murphy leads the WCHA in penalty minutes, with 87 minutes; Simms doesn't make the list on the WCHA web page of the top 30, with 18 minutes accrued.

So far in 2025-26. Murphy had been leading the WCHA, but has been passed by three other players (who have each played 4-to-6 more games). Murphy is at 57 minutes, those others at 60 and 59. Simms is again not in the top 30, She has accrued 18 minutes so far.

In 2023-24 and again in 2024-25, Murphy had more penalty minutes that season than Simms has had during her entire career.
To put Simms in the same conversation with Murphy and penalty stupidity is just ludicrous.
Murphy is probably the most penalized womens collegiate player to have ever played the game. Definitely the dirtiest and definitely the most egregious embellished to have ever played.
Such a shame she tarnishes her brilliant ability to play the game with her nonsense.

Nurse holds the all-time women's record for most points in a single Olympic tournament; 18 in 2022.

That was a fantastic and career changing tournament for her. The whole Canadian team was on fire (Jenner tournament mvp), Claire Thompson was also breaking records.

She hasn’t been the same for a while, but maybe she can be as good once, as she ever was, on Thursday.

I’ve heard the pw expansion is in part to get more Europeans in the league. Some of the pw team rosters are quite Canadian or quite American still; a leftover feeling from the old league days when players just played close to home.

There’s no parity in Olympic hockey, but I guess my reaction is a shoulder shrug. There’s very little parity in many many many sports.

For sure.

She could have easily avoided making head contact with the goalie today but instead of turning her body to slip past, she just bulled right through. Could have been a 5 and I was surprised they didn't review it and make it a major.

Too bad as she is a great player and I've enjoyed watching her on a team I'm pulling for.

I don't like the cheap shots though - even when done by someone on "my" team. Hopefully she can go one more game without doing something stupid (or criminal).

And Simms is the same as Murphy?

lololol

That's a take I guess.

I never said that Simms is as bad at Murphy. But I've watched her take more than a couple of cheap shots. The difference isn't nearly as great as certain Badger fans like to pretend.

It's a numbers game combined with budget for a national team. USA has seen continuous growth of female participation numbers in hockey and spends on national team development. Small countries can't keep up on an on going basis. That might have success here and there but over the long haul the larger countries that spend on development will be at the top.

As a Badger fan, I cannot disagree that Simms at times can play with an "edge". Having said that, having a Buckeye fan chime in is a lot of the pot calling the kettle black. OSU leads the country with 423 penalties minutes and it isn't even close. Simms has 16 penalty minutes. Carmichael has 60, Junaker 53, Petrie 35, Cimoroni 32, Rasmussen 31, Amos 30, Dunne 29,Disher 25, Peschel 22, Raunio 22, Swiderski 20. Heck of a team, but it is easy to draw a conclusion that this entire team plays with an "edge" with the exception of Svensson who has only taken1 penalty. Not sure how she isn't getting pointed feedback on missing the exceptions of the team and perhaps will end up in the portal. When you compare "on ice time" per penalty minutes, the gap becomes more cavernous with many of the OSU role players. I think we can forgive Simms for a couple of bad decisions.

I know pests have their place in the game, and Abbey has a lot of her story left to write. So I’ll sit this round out.

But I was thinking about Knight the other day, they had a mic on her and it was predictably bland. she said she doesn’t chirp much if it all. Anyone know if that’s true? Not only that I only even remember seeing her take one penalty (it was an unfortunate one, but not her fault). The older I get the more I appreciate her body of work and the way she plays.

My kid had some outrageous stuff said to her this weekend by an 11 year old boy on the ice. She beat the hell out of him and no calls by the ref on either kid. Kind of insane. I’m trying to navigate it because she stooped to this fool’s level, and I only want the best for her of course, which means nit being bothered by distractions.

I guess it’s part of getting older but all of a sudden the phrase “play the game the right way” and thoughts about what it means to respect the game were going through my head on behalf of both kids. Again I know pests have their place but boy is it nice to watch the players that just play with their whole heart on their sleeve, love the game, empty the tank and then hold their head high whatever the result.

Tomorrow 23 hearts will be broken by the result of the game. The US is heavily favored, unless a miracle occurs. I find myself wanting to watch and see if the losers (and winners) are capable of doing so with class. Not an easy thing to do for the losers. Should be easy for the winners, but I said I would sit this round out haha.

I'm not sure what the expectations for the other national teams are based upon, given the participation numbers in some of these countries. Canada beats the Swiss in a game that obviously wasn't as close as the score, but the bounce for the first goal was also quite fortuitous. It wasn't that long ago that the scores would be double digits to little if anything (NCAA type scores), and the North American teams are continuing to develop. It isn't an easy fix, and I'm not ready to give up on the sport. All of these countries/players look to be getting better at defending if nothing else. Scoring is at a premium at all levels, so it isn't surprising that the Europeans find it hard to score in these games.

I would bet there will be an interview with the Muzzinator at some point during tomorrow's gold medal game. As a Buckeye it's been awesome hearing Ohio State mentioned so much during the games over other college teams. When it comes to mentioning Wisconsin they seem more fixated on Edward's race than her school.
