2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Again - its lazy and does not help (and in fact probably hurts) your cause.

And - again - it is almost as if you didn't read my post:
I read your posts. As usual, with you "reasonable, unbiased, impartial, own-thinkers that only want compromise between the extremes" what you really want is Republicanism just without Trump and all the chaos he brings. You said it yourself.

Just like Sic, and Hovey, and Brent, and Drew and all the other self-proclaimed "reasonable, impartial, unbiased, moderate common-sense" posters on this board.

This. RedAxe should write Trump a thank-you note everyday, for giving him and his ilk a pretext for labeling the full- blown establishment GOP platform as “moderate.”

Advocating for things such as universal healthcare (Medicare for All), higher corporate and wealth taxes, and strong labor rights isn't far left nor is it anti-democracy. Many of her beliefs mirror the social safety net and welfare models found in many Western European democracies, placing her on the left edge of mainstream U.S. reform rather than among fringe anti-democratic or communist groups.
You missed the point.... it was in response to Rufus referring to someone not supporting a 5.5 Trillion dollar reconciliation process as a lost cause. Im not sure why someone thinking that a 5.5 trillion dollar bill should go through regular order vs reconciliation would be considered a lost cause.

I understand that is your perspective. I also get that it is difficult for someone on the farther ends of the political spectrum to understand. Just as you believe i want Republicanism, if the bulk of this board were on the far right, I'd be being told I'm a democrat/ liberal / socialist etc etc

Yes. Someone has a problem with Government spending yet Republicans are always the one breaking the bank. Liberals try to pass their spending through regular order and it's a travesty. Republicans just spend it regardless, no problem.

Sir, I don’t advocate anything. We’re the opposite; you’re a center-right voter living in deeply blue Massachusetts, while I’m a left-wing liberal living in deeply red Kentucky. I’ll talk to my patients all day long about the state of affairs, but I’ve never told any of them to vote Democrat. That’s something one figures out on his or her own at this point in the game.
Fair enough - while i am probably more center-left on most issues, your point stands on being center-ish in a deep blue state.

Regardless, I'd still say it is lazy to fall into name calling (Moron etc) rather than going with constrictive political diologue.
As for my hypothetical, in 2026 with as much damage as Trump has already done to this country and will do until Jan. 20, 2029, I’m not so sure that the American people, who re-elected a convicted felon that orchestrated an overthrow of the government on live television, are ever going to let us collectively climb all the way out of the ravine we threw ourselves down…at least not in my lifetime. I don’t think democracy is anywhere near safe, not even in that scenario. Not with what we’re experiencing now.
But in your hypothetical, Trump isn't in office - your hypothetical has Bernie and AOC as president and VP - so by definition Trump has not been doing damage to the country.

You’re on board with Democrats for now, because the GOP is so fucking disgusting and tainted by Trump and you know it as well as we do. I give you credit for at least voting for Democrats and not voting 3rd party. That’s putting your money where your mouth is. That said, maybe I’m wrong, but you sound like you’ll drift back to R some again once Trump disappears…I just don’t know who’s left who can be trusted over there, who still has an R behind their name, that isn’t tainted. They will claim Trump was just an abomination, they had nothing to do with it, etc., and the American people will believe it. How do you go back to that party after its transformation? I get the ones who don’t pay attention, but you seem to pay some attention…
Agree that the GOP has become a shitshow since Trump. As to if i drift back, i don't see it so much as me drifting vs the parties drifting. If the Republicans continue to drift right and Democrats continue to drift left, that will leave an awful lot of us in the middle who feel like we don't have a party.

Didn't realize you are in Kentucky.... what do you think of Beshear? Is he popular overall? My opinion is obviously from a distance but from what i can see id say i'm a fan - perhaps a future presidential candidate.

And - can you go on a hunt and find Mitch for us? LOL

The Biden infrastructure bill was a travesty? Noted.

And yes - it is crazy that the Republicans have somehow been able to maintain the image of being the fiscally responsible party when it is pretty clear they are not.

I didn't miss THE point. I was referring to the overall status of the Democratic party and what they actually represent vs big scary accusations.

Right - and my point (as a mainly democrat voting centrist) is that i hope the party does not continue to move left to embrace the DSA platform. I have not been making accusations - I'm reading what is in the DSA platform. (Much of which I think is too extreme - and also not a platform that can win elections at the national level)
