2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Again - it is lazy and does nothing to help (and in fact probably hurts) your cause.

At this particular moment probably El-Sayed as while Trump is in office I believe it is important for Democrats to take the senate.

In other scenarios i may very well cross the aisle on this one. (For example, if candidates were a mirror image running for governor of Massachusetts or if Democrats already had a strong hold on the Senate)... keep in mind I don't know a ton about Mike Rogers so i say that with you telling me he is a moderate.

Hurt what cause? I’m not trying to sell anyone on anything. At this point, if an American voter can’t see the gaping chasm between the Trump-run GOP and Democrats, nothing I’m going to say is going to change that. Again, if me calling someone a moron causes that person to vote for fascism instead of saving democracy because a stranger inexplicably hurt his or her feelings, I think that’s something that person needs to work on.
So you’re saying if Bernie was POTUS and there was a $5.5 trillion infrastructure reconciliation bill that would pass with AES’ vote in Michigan, or nothing with Rogers, as 50-50 with the VP AOC as the tiebreaker would become 51-49 GOP, you’d take Rogers for the checks and balances?

I assume the "cause" you are advocating for would be to encourage people to vote for Democrats. Throwing out terms like moron etc may make you feel better and all but really paints you in a bad light.

As to your question - a $5.5 trillion reconciliation bill? I'd say i probably would vote for the republican in that case. Id suggest that for something like that the senate should work and do their job as a deliberative body to pass with bipartisan support.

At least now we know. Lost cause. I will no longer quote or respond.
So any opinion that is not far left is a lost cause (Particularly in the scenario where Bernie is president and AOC is VP - where I assume you are no longer worried about saving democracy). Got it. Enjoy your circle jerk / echo chamber.

Some peoples' only moral compass is how they, personally, are doing or how they believe they would/would not benefit from a particular policy. Some folks are poorly educated and do not care to educate themselves from valid sources (or don't want their worldview challenged). Still others are stuck under the faulty impression that the core of the Republican Party is patriotic and that Trump is a temporary diversion, rather than the coming out of the fascist, anti-democratic organization they have been since becoming the preferred party of the plutes in 1980.

I'm at a loss. 🤷‍♂️

I would love to see a time history of the margin between AES and Stevens. Based on my sporadic sampling, it seemed like the margin stayed between about 15k and 30k votes the entire time, from 3% reporting all the way to 99%.

Sir, I don’t advocate anything. We’re the opposite; you’re a center-right voter living in deeply blue Massachusetts, while I’m a left-wing liberal living in deeply red Kentucky. I’ll talk to my patients all day long about the state of affairs, but I’ve never told any of them to vote Democrat. That’s something one figures out on his or her own at this point in the game.

As for my hypothetical, in 2026 with as much damage as Trump has already done to this country and will do until Jan. 20, 2029, I’m not so sure that the American people, who re-elected a convicted felon that orchestrated an overthrow of the government on live television, are ever going to let us collectively climb all the way out of the ravine we threw ourselves down…at least not in my lifetime. I don’t think democracy is anywhere near safe, not even in that scenario. Not with what we’re experiencing now.

You’re on board with Democrats for now, because the GOP is so fucking disgusting and tainted by Trump and you know it as well as we do. I give you credit for at least voting for Democrats and not voting 3rd party. That’s putting your money where your mouth is. That said, maybe I’m wrong, but you sound like you’ll drift back to R some again once Trump disappears…I just don’t know who’s left who can be trusted over there, who still has an R behind their name, that isn’t tainted. They will claim Trump was just an abomination, they had nothing to do with it, etc., and the American people will believe it. How do you go back to that party after its transformation? I get the ones who don’t pay attention, but you seem to pay some attention…

One thing I like to do after elections is look through the school millages and bond proposals. It's always the schools just barely hanging on that vote no. A couple districts that lost half their enrollment in the last twenty years just barely eeked out a yes vote, and one of those was on its second try after failing in May. There's another near Jackson that had its superintendent's reaction to a failed vote go somewhat viral because the buildings were falling apart. They had to get bailed out by state grants after failing two votes in a row. A lot of the time it's not even adding taxes, it's just renewing current ones.
