2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

AZ Primaries:

Gov (D): Hobbs, incumbent, unopposed, she won the 2022 election by only 280 votes
Gov (R): Biggs, a sitting MAGAt Congressman and idiot, not the guy who was my cousin-in-law's dentist (that's Gosar)

AG (D): Mayes, incumbent, unopposed, know nothing about him and/or her
AG (R): toss up between Petersen and Glassman, Peterson is an election denying troll, Glassman is a former Dem

SS (D): Fontes, incumbent, unopposed
SS (R): Kolodin, nearly got disbarred as a lawyer for election deniers, buddy of Kari lake

Regarding Markey's statement about transgender athletes:
Essentially what Moulton said (on the heels of the Democrats flubbing up the 2024 election and the context of needing to be a bigger tent party) was that he understands why a dad would have safety concerns about his daughter competing against a genetic male and that it is a problem that the Democratic party shames and belittles those with nuanced perspectives on such issues.

Seems pretty reasonable to me and probably aligns with the vast majority of Americans. In a way it is kind of shameful that Markey has gone to the MAGA playbook and tried to create a wedge issue out of it.

His record shows that Moulton has taken many votes in support of LGBTQ+ rights.

Nobody knew there was a "b" before him.

The chances of Moulton’s kids, your kids, or my kids competing against a transgender athlete are about as likely as any of them getting struck by lightning. In the event they do, I find it reasonable to conclude that I simply don’t give a fuck if my daughter loses to a transgender athlete, assuming that athlete hasn’t already gone through hormonal therapy that renders most of her/their biological advantages useless in the first place, depending on the sport. It’s not MAGA to say Moulton (and Newsom) are wrong about transgender athletes. I don’t think either of them should be kicked out of the Democratic Party; I just think their arguments are wrong on this issue. No shaming or belittling from me.
Markey is old, but unless he’s senile like Trump, and not “with it” like Bernie, I’d vote for him over Moulton, just like I’d have voted for him over Kennedy.

Right - and again his comments were framed in the context of how there is a large faction of the democratic base where it seems as if you are not even allowed to have that discussion with (and that applies to other issues as well).

Markey does not come off as senile as Trump (or honestly as Biden towards the end of his term) - but at some point we would do well with passing the torch to the next generation. Democrats need a deeper bench - and we won't get one if we never promote some of the potential rising stars.

Accusing any Democrat of making transgender athletes a "wedge issue" is rich, considering it's Republican pols who made all the blather and hullabaloo about it to begin with.
Exactly - which is why it is disappointing that Markey has been talking on the campaign trail as if Moulton as somehow anti LGBTQ.

I get this whole "not allowed to talk about it" gripe, but I believe it is a constructed argument that crypto-conservatives who play the "bothsides" card use to whine about being beaten on the facts. It's a form of denialism. I'll grant you, those who are invested in this issue tend to be passionate about it and dismissive of crypto-con "concerns", but there's a reason for that. These people do not change their minds based on new information.

I believe that same-sex marriage only happened because enough Millennials came of voting/pollable age to finally make up the support gap and force Justice Anthony Kennedy to support the inevitable. I also understand why the majority of the country doesn't "get" transgender issues yet. This is new and new things are scary(!!!) to the average undereducated American.

Well said. It takes Cletus a century to get used to people he had no conception existed being humans. The reactionary mind equates new with dangerous.

This is probably an evolutionary selection mechanism. The people who reacted to shadows in the corn with "that looks cool, Ima explore that" got eaten by tigers.

And as with most issues, MAGATS will not care unless they are specifically impacted. And even then, the "care" comes significantly later on.
