It's interesting to me that Republicans do not have to run a good campaign to win. Only Democrats need do that.

I remember when Bruce used to send me campaign lit. Even though I live in CD1. Please, send me more stuff Bruce! Waste as much money on me as possible!
 
UNH poll of Maine voters
Over half of recent Democratic primary voters prefer Troy Jackson as the Democratic nominee for Senate. Most Democratic primary voters believe Graham Platner's withdrawal from the race was the right decision. Jackson and incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins are statistically tied in a November election matchup. Collins earns high marks from Mainers on bringing federal dollars to the state during her tenure in office but receives lower ratings on her votes on key legislation, Cabinet nominees, and Supreme Court justices. In Maine's election for governor, Democratic nominee Hannah Pingree holds a double-digit lead over Republican Bobby Charles. Amid questions about ranked-choice voting in the state, a plurality of state residents support continuing to use it in Maine.

Collins 35-53 (-18)

Governor:
Hannah leads 49-35

Favorability:
Hannah 35-42 (-7)
Charles 26-38 (-12)

Maine is a fun state. From my experience, CD1 is like a slightly more conservative Massachusetts and CD2 is essentially Greatah New Hampstah (Yankee Alabama).

Insert Kepler's standard "30 miles outside of every population center" comment here.

CD2 is a huge district. Depends where you look if its Maga land or liberal. Bangor area which includes Orono, is pretty liberal. Ellsworth/MDI/ Acadia natl park would be liberal also. North of these areas are maga. Not sure how it works in the southern parts of CD2, I'd think Waterville, Augusta, Dirty Lew lean liberal.

You’ve got one. By nature, a Republican can’t run a good campaign if they have nothing to run on, which none of them do at this point. Ergo, I wondered why people kept voting for them anyways. Your sleepers still intrigue me. You told me the lies don’t work on them, so what makes the sleepers vote Republican?

CD1: Cumberland is bright blue. Sagadahoc, Knox, York and Lincoln are solid blue. Oxford is solid red and Androscoggin is red but trending left. The parts of Kennebec in CD1 are blue but in CD2 red. Kennebec and Waldo are the only purple counties in the state.
 
First poll comes out in Jackson’s favor. 49-46 over Collins.

Here in MA I’m snot seeing much on the Moulton / Markey primary…. And is there even a republican candidate?

Yes. Personally I’m supporting Moulton. Nothing wrong with Markey but at some point the 80 year olds should pass the torch and give the next generation a turn. Moulton is also of an age and has a resume of someone who could be a presidential candidate in the future and I believe the Democrats should be working on having a deep bench.

Moulton is a moderate, Markey is a progressive. Moulton criticized Bernie Sanders as a socialist.

Regarding Markey's statement about transgender athletes:

On Monday, a handful of trans activists and anti-war protesters gathered outside Moulton's Veterans Day event. One of them was Kyle Davis, a Salem city councilor who is now calling for Moulton to resign.

"If the Congressman's theory of change is that we need to sell out and scapegoat every marginalized community in order to win, I don't really know what we're winning at that point," Davis said.

John Deaton, who lost 2024 to Elizabeth Warren by 20 points.

Markey just turned 80.

I’m in Moulton district. Well spoken and pragmatic. Impressive military background and resume. I suppose he would be considered more “moderate” (by today’s standards). Between the two of them, their votes would be pretty similar…

(So far the people running to take over the seat Moulton is exiting seem pretty uninspiring)
