2024 SUNYAC additions ,subtractions and Tomfoolery......

Geneseo and Brockport left the SUNYAC because they hated the North Country travel times to Plattsburgh and Potsdam....must be really looking forward to New Haven and Manhattanville

Well thats just for hockey. Across all the other sports theyre saving a lot of travel time and money. Across all sports now instead of road trips to the north country oneonta and new paltz, they now have just 2 trips to albany and oneonta. Plus most of the other empire 8 schools are much closer than fredonia buff state cortland and oswego

You should go compare the drive to the north country in the dead of winter vs drive to mville and compare your results

Once again, people have to stop looking at these moves with their blinders on. Hockey isn't the only sport out there. Shocking, isn't it?

This move was made by looking at their ENTIRE sports department and budget. Brockport has a bazillion sports teams. Overall, the move will save them well into the six figures on travel costs.

Just back from Brockport volleyball camp and YES the coach loves the idea of no Platty/Pots trips ,not to mention no New waltz as well, just a small sampling

I can't believe how many times this has had to be explained. This is one dense forum!!

I get the travel concerns but why have an organization called SUNYAC if their is no REAL SUNYAC.

The real question is why doesn't Albany play a role in any of this?

The rest of the SUNYAC sports (with maybe one other exception) is real SUNYAC. Just not all the SUNYAC schools. But the SUNYAC never included all the SUNYAC schools.

That's what I've always wondered. And if I understand it correctly "SUNYAC" is headquartered in Syracuse- not Albany- so it's like it is its own organization?

The SUNYAC is completely independent. My question was partly rhetorical. Throughout the history of the SUNYAC, the schools have done their own thing. I get it. I just wish the SUNY system would have at the very least, an "urging" say in things.

“Independence” depends on independent from what? The governor appoints 12 of the 15 trustees and most of the budget comes from New York State. I don’t think of them as independent. They have masters they answer to in a big way.

The masters are the membership schools themselves. The money comes from the membership schools themselves. Just like many other sports conferences.

The SUNY system in Albany has absolutely no control over the SUNYAC. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
