2024 SUNYAC additions ,subtractions and Tomfoolery......

Not really hockey related but SUNY New Paltz is leaving the SUNYAC.

I assume for the same reasons Brockport and Geneseo left -- travel costs. It might not be hockey related, but the dominoes continue to fall which could have detrimental effects to some SUNY hockey programs.

Also d3 hockey news quote tweeted someone else saying that Elmira would be going to the empire 8 while albertus Magnus is joining the UCHC in 2025-2026 implying that both conferences will exist still??

That's got to be a mistake. Just do the math. How does UCHC even get to six teams if your remove all the E8 teams? They don't.

DIIIHockeyNews did respond with essentially a big question mark about whether the original poster got confused.

Looks like Hobart rumors to join the SUNYAC are real starting with 2025-26 season( not final/final quite yet). Hobart would have less travel compared to NEHC and some awesome rivalries will develop. New York State hockey will be where it's at :). Not sure about Skidmore and Elmira, but they will both have options. If I had to bet, Hobart and Skidmore to the SUNYAC and Elmira to E8.

So far for Oswego I have seen...Justin Ryan forward...NCDC,,,33gp 12g-21a for 33 pts.......Aiden Cooper..dman...OJHL. 41gp...4g-20 for 24pts.....Ryan Keyes ...netminder..NCDC..South Shore Kings 41gp with a 2.06ga....From what I see on the Oz roster we have 12 guys returning, as we know nothing is in stone, that leaves us with a BIG hole to fill,I am guessing 15 players give or take a few, hope the coaching staff has new tread on the tires....Go Lakers!!!

Per Mike McMahon Keyes has committed to D1 Merrimack:

Being a traditionalist, I prefer state schools in the SUNYAC, but we have ventured out before; ECACW, NYCHA (?). That being said, we get Hobart and Skidmore to replace Genny and Brockport, we win.

I hear you on the traditionalist view....but our regular conference, the Liberty league, has a few D1 hockey teams , and we're happy to have hockey at D3 level. As long as the SUNYAC lets us in, it is the best combination of travel and quality of play. We have one more year in NEHC which has been a nice home as we developed rivalries with a few of the teams(Babson, Norwich and Skidmore in particular)..I'm sure we will try to keep Babson and Norwich as OOC challenges on the schedule in the future . Still looking to avenge the opener loss against Oswego , maybe this year, and love your rink.

It just dawned on me today something that I forgot. I was told if this E8 league goes forward, it actually may not change it's name. Ergo, it will still be called UCHC. Heck, the E8 adminstration runs the UCHC anyway. At first I thought that was strange, then I realized some of the benefits of doing that. Thus, that might have been the confusion over the original rumor from that original tweet. He interchanged the names, because they are going to be the "same."

This clarifies the landscape. I was wondering whether Hobart should consider the E8/UCHC over the SUNYAC? The E8/UCHC seems a bit crowded and longer trips into PA, while the SUNYAC seems to be more manageable with quality teams like Patty, Oswego and Cortland and the ability to schedule some strong OOC opponents. What do you think?

So everyone in the SUNYAC is now playing for third with the financial aid disparity with Hobart and Skidmore. Sounds like a win.

I don’t think Plattsburgh and Oswego will have issues keeping up with Hobart and Skidmore and we’ll see if Cortland can keep their train rolling.

should be five very good teams in that league with all five usually in the top 15 discussion most years.

great pickups for SUNYAC after losing Geneseo and Brockport.

Hobart lost to Oswego in the opening game this year. Plattsburg and Cortland plus Skidmore will make for some very challenging competition as Coach Taylor is quite happy to compete in the SUNYAC. I also see a Babson/Norwich weekend in the future as well.

I’m unsure what the total number of league games will be for Norwich but if it stays at 18, they don’t have the wiggle room to add 2 games with Hobart and another NY opponent if they keep the Plattsburgh and Middlebury non-conference games. I don’t see those going away. Plus they play in the two tournaments every year so that’s four more games, leaves just one Non-Conference to play with.

if the league only has 16 games, then 9 non-conference would leave a lot more to play with and open up potential to have a Hobart/Skidmore or Hobart/Elmira weekend.

The announcement said the SUNYAC will have 18 conference games. So seven nonconference games available.

Russ he's talking about norwichs schedule. But I believe the LEC will have either 9 or 10 teams in 25-26(depending on where Salve Regina goes) so his concerns are quite valid for an 18 game schedule
