2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

I don't even know what's right, whether Biden should or step aside, and if so who would be the best candidate (the candidate would be Harris, but is she the best?). I've read really compelling arguments on both sides of this issue from smart, sober people that aren't panicking. But...

My god. I know why we're freaking out. Because Biden looks just brutally old and the consequences of getting this wrong are unfathomable. But Jesus Tapdancing Christ people.

It would have been better if he hadn't ran at all. It would have given the Democrats the ability to go through the whole process with the deep bench naturally.

No, he doesn't look brutally old on the whole especially in comparison to Trump's own mental gaffes and even asking the question makes you sound like I won't say in order to be nice.

When my grandmother had dementia, and she called me by my uncle's name and referred to me as her son, she didn't recognize or correct her error.

When Biden stumbled and said Putin was President of Ukraine, he immediately corrected himself, and he and Zelensky even laughed about it.

I would mention that Biden's convicted felon opponent thinks we won the American Revolution because of air superiority, routinely sides with Russia over NATO allies and our own military, and thinks nuking a hurricane is a good idea. But it would be insensitive to bring those up because the poor man is fighting windmill cancer.

Nearly two in three Americans (64%), including 38% of Democrats and 35% of Biden supporters, do not think Biden has the mental fitness to serve as president. 68% of independents say the same.

Americans divide (50% mentally fit to 49% mentally unfit) about Trump’s mental acuity.

52% of Americans think Biden has the character to serve as president. 47% disagree. 50% of independents and just 10% of Democrats question Biden’s character to serve as president.

A majority of Americans (56%), including 18% of Republicans and 58% of independents, do not think Trump has the character to be President of the United States.

If Biden decides to drop out of the presidential contest, other potential Democratic candidates **do not** improve the Democrats chances against Trump.
  • Harris receives support from 50% of registered voters to 49% for Trump.
  • Newsom garners 50% to 48% for Trump.
  • Whitmer receives 49% of the vote to 49% for Trump.

I still think they would improve once they became the candidate and actually campaigned and lined up a bunch of endorsements. It would also take away Trumps current strategy of laying low and let the press hammer on every gaffe Biden makes.

look at Biden 4 years ago vs today. It’s actually quite alarming how much he has declined. I’ll still vote for him if he’s in a coma (or worse), but he really shouldn’t be running and we should have had a competitive primary.

How ironic ... the party that purports to want to "save democracy" wants to ignore its own (rigged) primary results, now that the "winner" and delegate holder has been exposed to be a senile empty vessel. You go, guys ...

Biden's Popularity Skyrockets After He Announces Trump Is His VP | Babylon Bee

U.S. — In a much-needed surge in popularity after disastrous debate performances and gaffe-filled public appearances, Presiden Joe Biden's popularity skyrocketed overnight after he announced Donald Trump as his vice presidential running mate.

The announcement came during a highly anticipated press conference, with Biden making the shocking declaration that Trump had replaced Kamala Harris as Vice President. Pollsters revealed the announcement of Trump as VP did wonders for Biden's dwindling approval rating.

"He's never seen numbers like this," said political analyst James Broyles. "Even at his highest points, he's struggled to gain traction with a broad base of voters. Naming Trump as his VP last night totally changed that. His popularity among nearly every voting block is through the roof. This might turn the tide in the election."

Though sources within the administration said Vice President Harris was blindsided by the switch, Trump insiders said the former president was ready to take the job. "He didn't expect this, but he's ready," said one Trump confidant. "The way he sees it, he's in a no-lose situation. Either he wins the election in November as president or Biden wins re-election, keels over not long after, and his VP — Trump — ends up in the Oval Office anyway. This is 4D chess at its finest."

At publishing time, Washington, D.C. was still swept up in chaos as Democrats and members of the media remained confounded about whether or not they could remain supportive of Biden's re-election now that Trump had been added to the ticket.

This is all I need to see to call bulls**t on that poll:

52% of Americans think Biden has the character to serve as president. 47% disagree. 50% of independents and just 10% of Democrats question Biden’s character to serve as president.

Only 52% thinks he has the character to serve? They should have asked the very same question about Trump. If perhaps the result was 20% I might give the poll any weight.

You should read the next line in the post:

"A majority of Americans (56%), including 18% of Republicans and 58% of independents, do not think Trump has the character to be President of the United States."

I find it sad how this country views old people. You know who doesn't seem to have any issues with Biden or his age (outside of Blacks, Hispanics and women of course) our friggin allies!

Oh and Biden is so old and feeble he just got Israel and Hamas to agree to the ceasefire.

if true s**t like this doesn't help and I don't care if she actually had something else already scheduled.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will not attend Biden's Michigan appearance on Friday. Sen. Gary Peters, a steadfast Biden supporter, and Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who is vying for Michigan’s open Senate seat, will also be absent. United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain is traveling for a conference and won't attend either.

It sounds like Whitmer had an event that was planned a while ago. I am sure Biden is not that upset about it. Peters and Slotkin is a bit annoying since it isn't like Biden is crashing and burning in Michigan these days.

I am watching parts of Biden's speech in Detroit...friggin crushing it.

(I have been on a self imposed "No Politics, no Social Media" ban for the last 48 hours or so)

There is more in that poll that is important...and definitely not a good sign for Trump.

Q: Which is more concerning in a president

Someone who doesn't tell the truth (bolded) Someone who might be too old?

Total Adults: 68% 32%

Definitely Voting: 69% 31%

Democrats: 85% 15%

Republicans: 51% 49%

Independents: 66% 4%

The crosstabs are killing Trump...and since in the same poll 4/10 Indys and 6/10 GOPers say they have no idea what Project 2025 is...well I don't think that is going to help.

If the Old White Brigade in Congress could shut their faces up they could see things aren't as bleak as you think. 2/3rds of Independents care more about lying than age. Hell GOPers are friggin split on it! 7/10 voters say lying is worse than age. Just hold the line and shut the (bleep) up and you are doing fine.

(oh and BTW Biden is +2 in the poll despite it all)

A large spreadsheet breaking down political "opponents" of Trump's, going back to the 2016 campaign has leaked. It contains a Q Anon wishlist full of people who "threw roadblocks" at Trump, or exposed his crimes, and their social media handles (mostly Twitter based).

There's also a note at the top of the sheets stating "For Elon Musk's Eyes Only."

I'm just so surprised that the fresher faces are so low. ****ing Gore is higher than Harris, Pete, and Whitmer? Yiiiikes. It's been a quarter century since he left office.

Hopefully Bass is right because we're in trouble if they aren't.

Al Gore, Jesus.

It's name recognition. 90% of Americans probably think Whitmer is the chocolate sampler.

Yeah, that's insane. Biden has a fine character. He isn't Carter, but nobody else living except Ursula Le Guin* on a good day is.

* You shut your whore mouth; she'll live forever.

Carter is one of the great men ever. I mean his ego did have him building houses for people well into his 90s so maybe he not. ;)
