2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

What makes you say that? She is polling similar to Biden at this point in the bs hypotheticals. I think the youth like her better than Biden and right now so do a lot of the minorities.

I am not saying you are wrong mind you, I just don't see it personally.

You yourself have said polls cannot be trusted, and that's a smart bet. So I'll give you two reasons: One, she isn't white. We've had our fill with presidents who are not white. And two, and far more important, she is a she. Until this country actually elects a woman as president, I will go to my grave saying this country is too stupid and bigoted to elect a woman as president. No way in Hell it elects a woman of color. People didn't just hate Hillary because she was a Clinton. They hated her because she was a woman.

Part of me thinks if we're too stupid to elect a woman or a woman of color, we don't deserve to have a country anyway.

And if Biden remains in the race and has one more public performance like the debate, he hands the election to trump. If Biden does not have the "stamina" to withstand jetlag and colds, we're in trouble. And I'm telling all of you this, 99.9% of this debate is going to be shaped by an incessant media drumbeat of Biden's age-related frailty. It's not going away.

Just like the media has convinced the majority of Americans the economy is in the toilet, that same media has convinced Americans that Biden's brains are just aging mush. It no longer matters if it is true or not.

When the deck was cleared for Biden in the early days of Covid in 2020, it would have been nice if the party would have wrestled a public proclamation from him vowing to be a one term president. Perhaps delivered sometime after the first 100 days of his term. The media has two things to keep this a horse race, lies about the economy, and a narrative that Biden is too old. How much better off would we be if one of those was not available?

And since I agree with RJ about Harris, we could be one fuc ked country in a few months.

First of all, the disconnect between the punditry and the people is growing. I think outside of the polls no one seems to be biotching about Biden's age. They were right after the debate but it has died down amongst the populace. I hear more people whining about the media than I do Biden and that is a significant thing here. I dont think anyone under 40 cares what CNN, MSNBC, Faux or any other network says. They also don't pay attention to the NYTimes or WaPo or the WSJ. There is a reason media is losing money hand over fist and it isn't because it is too expensive...its because the majority of the people tuned out of it in the last few years. There was a rebound when Trump was President because of the outrage machine aspect, but otherwise no one cares. The only people who do, tend to be the people who answer the phone when pollsters call. (i.e. certain demographics)

Now that is not to say that everyone is ignoring it, obviously that is not the case. The problem is whether enough Independents and Dems stay home because of the choices they have. I still don't see that happening and none are going to vote for RFK Jr. at this point and the rest (Stein West) people forgot were even in the race.

And sorry but I disagree with the idea that Biden should have said he wouldn't run again after he won. Why should he limit himself that way...especially since he was actually able to get stuff done and everyone knew Trump was going to run again. There was no one younger that was ready for the type of campaign they would need to run. You aren't going to put Newsome or Whitmer out there yet...none of you seem to think Harris can do it. Bernie is out. AOC aint running. Even if you started grooming someone after the first 100 days it is still highly unlikely they will do much better than Biden will because he is a known commodity and has a track record. Not to mention you don't think the media is going to play up the "Should Biden Run Again Despite the Pledge" and then manufacture a feud with whoever is next?

There is only two choices here at this point, the voters spoke. Either he steps aside and Harris runs or he stays in. An open convention is not an option if you want to win. It sounds to me like after everyone had their discussions with Biden (or as the media puts it FREAKED OUT AND NOW IS WORRIED AND WANTS TO FDORCE HIM OUT!1!!1!!) they all seem confident in him. My guess is they have a plan in place for how to run the summer...and a lot of it is using the Governors to be his surrogates between speeches. They did a helluva job yesterday...and they can frame things for their constituents on a more direct basis without needing the media to hold people's hands. The message is easy...you just need to beat people over the head with it on a more personal basis. Be like Truman on his whistle stop tour...another guy who the media disliked and had a narrative against when he ran against Dewey.

By parliament rules, ruling party has five years in office and can call an election at any time.

the tories have not been making good decisions.

What were Dementia Donnie's WH work hours? I seem to remember a lot of reports that he didn't come down the residence stairs til 11, and then big chunks of his schedule blocked off for "executive time"(watching TV in the little room off the Oval, you know, where he spent Jan 6)

I say it because of the level of misogyny in this country. As well as it will spur some folks willing to not vote for Trump to come out and vote for Trump.

The misogynists are already voting GOP. Hillary is not a valid comparison. She wasn't hated because she's a woman, she was hated because she's the epitome of hateable.

Sunak thought it would be even worse if he waited because Tory policies are a disaster and making things worse.
 
Dems should take note of the UK election results in Muslim areas tonight, where Labour is cratering where they de-listed members who didn't toe Bibi's line.

Turns out you can't just sh-t on a religion or an ethnicity because it's "pragmatic." And you can't call respecting the rights of a minority "performative" without making them disgusted with you.
