2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather

June 1 to November 30 in the Atlantic

6 months?

We could just make it all year.

Let's say Aug 1 to Election Day.

Acapulco has been destroyed. My exes conservative , climate denying parents will have to find somewhere else to be stingy this winter

I ended up there once with them about ten years ago. Was a shame- physically stunning location, gorgeous beaches but ruined by cartels. I know back in the 50-60s it was the place to be

Did it destroy the natural features with erosion or trees uprooted, or just the commercial crap like hotels?

Save the location, wash all the development (and developers) into the ocean.

Apparently uprooted trees, but this went from a tropical storm to a cat 5 in less than 24 hours. Hard to avoid tree damage when that is what hits.

I’m sure it will be rebuilt. When I was there, because of the area, violence, and cartels- it was basically just a resort town for Mexicans. There were some Canadians there on vacation, but they were stubborn ones who’s been coming for decades and refused to find a new vacation spot.

Curious to see how fast it gets fixed given it’s not a tourist spot for Americans like some other spots

holy shit the national hurricane center said it would be a cat1. Thats how fast it strengthened. Those poor people

I think of Acapulco as a middle brow resort for pasty-skinned Inland Imperials who liked Bob Hope.

That’s what it was until ….I’m not sure when it changed. But I think the crime has been around for a while. Whether the downfall of Acapulco lead to Cancun and riviera maya becoming the hotspot, or if they developed amd them Acapulco fell into ruins, I dunno.

but the mountain backdrop is stunning and the water was perfect. Shame.

People still go to Acapulco, but it fell way off. I mean there are higher crime areas like Mazatlan that still do very good for tourism so not sure what Acapulco has done wrong. Methinks a lot of people would just rather go to Puerto/Nuevo Vallarta and other places that are building massive resorts and entertainment spectacles. (that is where we stay)

My SOs parents are in Mexico...other side of the country though thankfully!

Yeah but what I meant was- it used to be the celebrity hangout. That stopped decades ago

other than my ex I don’t know anyone who goes there past 1990. I will say- other than who I was with, I enjoyed it. They aren’t littered with as many all inclusive- we stayed on the main strip and ate out locally each night which was great. The guys with machine guns outside many doors didn’t phase me too much after living in Berlin

Went aurora hunting tonight. Last two nights have been spectacular.

was in dx neck of the woods. Drove 20 mins and saw the lights over a lake, not too shabby

Dang. Didnt even know to look

I usually just monitor twin cities aurora chaser fb group- 22k members. I was at my parents last night so I just drive 20 mins to big marine park reserve. About 30 people there quietly chilling

people were seeing them in lake Elmo off 94 around 8pm. While they often pop overnight , last night was between 7-9pm
