If you had a temperature inversion where a cold front smashed against a warm front and dove under it, would you get an upside-down funnel?

No, heat rises. Hot air will go up, not down. So all thats left is radiant heat transfer- which won’t power storms.

It’s also energy transfer that is important. So if the upper atmosphere is warm, the warm surface temp is muted due to the lower potential change.

The key start is the delta of potential energy, not just the energy of one component.

Right. Can't drive transfer without potential. Was doing that for my day job today. No one could tell me what the temperature of a mixing vessel would be as you add different materials at different temperature and plot the performance of the jacket over time.

so I built a spreadsheet.

We need to make sure the batch temp never goes above a certain level without also making an insane vessel. Anyways. LMTD kept fouling me up. I wasn't getting the heat transfer I expected, no potential. Realized I had one of the temps wrong.

And then I found $20

Conditions appear ripe for deepening; NHC is now forecasting Idalia to make landfall as a low Cat 4.

Florida's homeowners' insurance rates are about to surge again next year.
