2022 Olympic Games

Nothing physical will happen to Peng ... at least until after the Winter Olympics are over. Because the Chinese are smart enough to know even the IOC will not accept that and will have to cancel the Games ... especially after every sponsor will be pressured to withdraw support for the Games from the public. China has to keep her alive ... even if hidden.

What can we do to force her exposure? The WTA has suspended all games in China in solidarity. As Olympic fans, what can be done to get her to a safe space?

Its a good question and I don’t have an answer, only can say the Games already felt icky, and this apparent human rights abuse - making someone, a female athlete, disappear for using their voice - only makes it more so.

Terrible segue to bringing it back to my petty hockey wishes
now...As a women’s hockey fan it’s frustrating because we “need” the platform of the Olympics, aren’t lucky to have an NHL. Yet another reason one hopes a women’s pro league can grow in power and prominence so we are less dependent on the Olympics as fans.

I don't think the IOC has any interest in helping her if she remains hidden. That's why I say as long as China keeps her alive, they know the IOC won't do anything.

Hopefully I have it right now. I noticed this roster is being referred to as the “apparent Olympic roster” since it’s not officially announced until Jan 1.

I think it’s an exciting roster. The power play and defense in general were atrocious in the summer but that feels like it was a long time ago. 3 games vs Canada in the next week.
 
Watching Game 5 of the Rivalry Series on the NHL Network. Not as exciting as we've seen from these two teams. I think the main reason is the two teams have been able to adjust defensively to one another that it's become very difficult to generate quality chances offensively. In particular, the U.S. team especially has had very few good scoring chances, even on the power play in this one. Canada did find one excellent scoring opportunity on the power play when the American defender did not execute to block the shot and instead ended up screening her goaltender. Hopefully the U.S. will get it together and come back with a goal or two in the 3rd.
 
Yes first period was a real sleeper. PP Goals from Poulin and Knight,
now 1-1 in the third and we have a game. Knights goal from behind the net off the defender seemed familiar. What a cruel way to score . (I love it).
 
USA controls the 3x3 overtime period but Poulin finds a way to win it.

On the preceding faceoff I saw it was Turnbull taking the faceoff and I thought where’s Poulin? Luckily she was the winger. Such a smart player, after the centers tied up she swooped in, poked the puck free to Larocque and took off out of the zone, rather than try to possess it herself. Larocque and Poulin 2 on 1
with a Poulin tip in. Knight is an undeniable goal scorer but do you trust her on the ice in OT when the rush goes the other way?

Canada relied exclusively on Fast and Larocque in OT on D, those two then Ambrose appear to be the most relied upon D for Canada. Thompson is a young D that gets a lot of ice time. Zandee Hart, Mikkelson, and Shelton shared the remaining D ice time, Mikkelson her first game back since blowing her knee out. I think Ashton Bell is still on the roster too? So maybe one more defender to be released. I think Canada wants ZH and Mikkelson on the roster...hope they stay healthy and have enough to absorb whatever minutes they need to.

Nurse is apparently hurt, not sure why Maltais wasn’t in the lineup tonight. O’Neill is still hanging in there on the roster, and I thought she has some great shifts, thought the penalty they called against her was a weak call. So two more forwards to be released maybe? Stacey would be on the bubble in my mind but I also think once you’re in you’re in and she’s a
vet.

Interesting development to see Clark on the first line. I’ve tuned out since Worlds, but her worlds performance on the 3rd line was amazing so im not surprised to see her moved up. They had Bach on the third line tonight. I was thinking about how the first was a sleeper....Need that Nurse and Maltais energy. Hope those two are back soon.

Yes, it is a nice arena. Too bad Wisconsin didn't invest in a slightly bigger facility. Then you could be hosting the occasional NCAA finals. You are sounding seasonally green to go with the Wisconsin red.

I am really into green this year with my wrapping and decorating, how did you know? We finally bought a fake tree and it is a flocked one, so this year the wife said only white and red decorations on it. IT WAS NOT MY IDEA. Merry Christmas to you as well.

Yeah Barry cheaping out LaBahn was criminal considering how much money they blow on football. A couple more million would have made all the difference, chump change really. The Kohl would be fine to host though. Can you imagine attendance for a MN UW ncaa game in the Kohl? They'd set a record. Some say it is too big but I was in St. Louis for the Clarkson debacle and that building was big and not nearly as nice as the Kohl and it was out in the middle of nowhere. Madison as we all know is an awesome metropolitan area (when they are not rioting and trashing the place) with the rinks so close to downtown.

I had to Google what flock is :

“If you want to get technical, flocking is the process of creating texture by attaching tiny fibers to a material. But when talking about Christmas trees, flocking means to give it that natural, snow-covered look by applying a white, powdery mixture to the branches.”

The intersection of home decor and hockey, on the message board. Very nice.
