2022 Olympic Games

Based on the last couple games, it looks like the gold medal game is going to Rigsby-Cavallini vs Desbiens in goal.

Teammates on the 2013-2014 Wisconsin team. The expectation for that year was senior Rigsby would be away on the Olympic team and freshman Desbiens would be the starter. But Rigsby was left off the Olympics team, so she played most of the year. In January (?) Rigs was injured and Desbiens played for a month or so, and did really well.

(Even with that much goalie-tending talent, UW finished second to the all-but-unbeatable Noora Raty Gopher teams.)

The Desbiens-Cavallini angle is a good one. Another one is that Blayre Turnbull (one of the Canadian captains) was in Cavallini's wedding. Lots of familiarity between the 2 teams as they all played college hockey in the US.

Having watched all of the US and Canadians games in the Olympics I would tend to lean to the Canadians winning it. However the US did dominate the SOGs in their prior meeting but Desbiens came up big even if most of the US shots were not grade A chances. Regardless of the outcome, 5 Badgers will walk away with Gold, and 5 Badgers will walk away with Silver.

I won’t get sucked into comparing athletic experiences and accomplishments (you’d lose) but, of course, teams suck it up and play with the players they have. The point you are missing is that we were talking about USA Hockey’s management of the team. This is similar to an NFL team going all in on an All-Star quarterback but neglecting to have any kind of a quality back up QB. The players will play the game with whomever is throwing the ball, but that doesn’t excuse team management for not putting together a roster that includes a solid contingency plan. No one is whining. People are just holding USA Hockey accountable.

Oh brother, not you again. Lol. OK, OK, you're very manly. We get it. Blah, blah, blah. Yawn! You got sucked into answering like a typical male, again. I don't think I challenged your athletic experiences and accomplishments. I simply asked if you've ever played team sports. I should have been more specific and asked if you've ever played high level hockey because comparing "a quality backup QB" being able to replace the starter and having someone who got cut from the Olympic hockey team being able to replace Brianna Decker is a complete joke. She is irreplaceable! Bringing in a player who was cut from the team is simply bringing in a body to fill out the roster. She won't come close to replacing Decker. A backup quarterback is typically ranked much higher on the depth chart than a player that was cut from a team and is better able to come in to replace the starting QB even though he usually isn't as effective as the starter, but football and hockey are apples and oranges. Nice try though! And as far as "holding USA Hockey accountable" goes, good luck with that! I'm not interested in arguing with you anymore. It's not worth my time, so I won't be coming back to this thread to read whatever retort you might post. Sorry, but I'm moving on without you. I don't like extra baggage.

Good luck to the remaining 4 teams for the medal games. They should be fun to watch!

“…so I won't be coming back to this thread to read whatever retort you might post.” Best news this forum has had in a long time.

Thanks, that was a great trip down memory lane.
1975? Really? And War was such a good band.
I haven't been able to link like that, so I appreciate your efforts.

Two ways to do it....One easier than the other. The easier way is to use the Ctl + L keys. The other way is to use the 8th button bar from the right, in the menu bar at the top of the post and click on the chain link icon (first on on the left side of that button bar). A dialog box will come up when you do either with the curser blinking in the URL box. You can copy and paste, for example, a youtube URL, which is what I did with the War song and click on OK. And presto you have the link in your post.

I just love the fan forum.

You learn something new about hockey, life and computers everyday on the fan forum. Thanks.

A question for the Canadian fans....Watts do you think of the all black uni's?

I think the USA are too blue forward, there needs to be more red on them. All 3 national colors need to be used in a someWatts balanced way.

can’t read the numbers on tv so I don’t care for them. That’s basically my only requirement.

the white Canada jerseys are best. I like the minimal black accents - C and A’s and Nike logo. USA’s blues have grown on me. I accept the unending changes are about selling jerseys; legible numbers does seem like it should be a requirement.

Big game tonight.
USA running a short bench. Do they have enough gas?
Canada’s D has been surprisingly leaky. Can they withhold the onslaught that will come?

Go Canada.

Random quote #475:
"It shows what's possible for women's hockey," Switzerland forward Lara Stalder said following an 8-0 loss to the U.S. "Everyone can learn so much from these games. I mean, I love playing these games. It's so much fun playing against the best women's hockey players in the world and trying to battle out there."

And the Gophers lost to the Howeitzer in the national championship game.

Well the US allows 3 oddman rushes in the 2nd and Canada scores on the 3rd one. Knight with the shorty gives the US life. Will Canada get tight?

Final Canada 3 USA 2. Congrats to the Gold(en) Medalists Fast, Ambrose, Rattray and Shelton. And Congrats to Silver medalist Savannah Harmon.

Wasn't it the poster Chaffron, or something like that, who was so down on Canadian women's hockey? They seem to have overcome whatever was wrong with them.

And for Team USA, maybe it's time to let some of the older players move on to other things and go younger. And not just a token player or two that doesn't see the ice much.
