2022 Olympic Games

American TV (not pay-for streaming service) isn't showing the game. Twitter says it is delayed, because of COVID tests? What is Canadian TV saying?

(I can verify that Britta Curl is not on a plane on her way to Beijing. She was sitting three rows in front of me at LaBahn tonight.)

Badger hockey reporter Todd Milewski retweeted an article from Britta Curl's hometown of Bismarck, ND indicating that Curl was in Los Angeles Sunday for COVID testing with plans to leave for China on Tuesday to join the team. If teams are allowed a "taxi squad" it seems foolish that Curl didn't travel with the team in the first place considering Covid and the possibility that the team could lose a player to injury. Quite the thrill for Curl who becomes the 11th Badger women's hockey player to play in the Olympics joining her teammates and the 5 former Badgers on the Canadian team.

Sarah Nurse continues to be a star on the Canadian team with her 4th goal of the Olympics vs ROC last night.

I prefer her to AJ. At least she calmly finishes her sentences. AJ sounds like her phone battery is going to die in 10 seconds and she has 30 seconds of speaking that she wants to finish before it does. I get excited by the product on the ice, not anything that the talking heads are babbling about.

Listen to it sober sometime and see if that changes your perception.

AJ sucks too, just in a different way. Surely somewhere out there there is a female Tony Romo or John Madden waiting to be found. If they can't, then just hire a qualified man to do it, like in the good old days where you hired the best available person based only on talent.

They'd be foolish not to bring in a G and a D while they are at it. And why they decided to wait so long to call her up is dumb too. The minute Decker was done, she should have been on a plane.

So the commies didn't get their results to the Canucks prior to the game, so they played the game with masks? Shocking on 2 fronts, the commie's are likely trying to skirt positive test results (should they even be there at all?) and playing with masks worked.

Well, Britta was at LaBahn again Saturday night, through at least the end of the game, 10 PM. And that isn't per a tweet or a newspaper. That was me looking right at her.

More confirmation. I don't think Milewski would report it himself without some confirmation within the Badger program.

Confirm whatever you want. She was at LaBahn at 10 PM Saturday night. I don't know what process she has to go through to get inside what has been reported as a very tight 'bubble' in Beijing. So I don't know of what value there might be in her travelling now. How many games might she even be available for (not to mention a ten hour jet lag)?

So Watts kind of a fan was she? Did she get all loud and crazy when UW scored? Did she make any interesting comments? I would have been hanging on her every word.

On Friday, she was three rows in front of me, sitting with maybe a boyfriend and two other girls I didn't recognize. And as you know, none of us got loud or crazy on Friday. I couldn't hear anything any of them was saying. (During the second period, she was on the phone for a while and seemed to be having trouble hearing; and finally went down into that hallway behind the north goal towards the UW locker room, and didn't come back until well into the third period. We can imagine she was on the phone with Beijing! :-)

On Saturday, she was up on that balcony outside of Mark Johnson's office, with one or two others. I did see them singing and waving during "Varsity".

I was wondering who they were waving at during Varsity Saturday.

Speaking of Varsity, they need to play that at the end of every game and the players stay out for it win or lose. It's a not as reward for winning, it's about honoring the U. And then they can ditch it in the 2nd intermission.

So what do people expect to see tonight with Canada vs USA? The Americans' best chance would seem to involve some sort of goaltending thievery. Canada looks to be faster, quicker, and more relentless. There is little actual advantage to the winner, but I would think in terms of intangibles, the USA has more riding on it, as Canada has proven to be the better team of late. The USA is in greater need of a confidence boost.

Canada has the advantage of recent wins, both in the truncated exhibition series and in the most recent World Championships. I do not think the margin between the teams is as large as some might believe just based on those recent results. Close game, and, as always, either team is completely capable of victory.

Can USA somehow overcome loss of one of their best players?

The Canadians seem like the better team so far after 3 games. However the US has to happy with the depth of their scoring as every line has been contributing. The Sarah's (Nurse and Fillier) have been really impressive for the Canadians so far. Let's see if the US can contain them tonight.

I approve of both teams' uniforms, and that is a very important thing. Lol

Canada might look good because of their uniforms but they looked Iike absolute crap from a hockey point of view. Talk about careless give-aways in your own zone!

Keller got sucked out way too high on that PK when MPP had the puck for Canada and left her low assignment wide open. MPP made her pay with an easy pass down low and the bang-bang pass and goal was the result. 1-0 Canada because of a defensive mistake in spite of dominating Canada the entire period.

The guy in-studio with Angela is brutal. He gives off the vibe that he's never followed women's hockey in his life. He's faking it. Every 4 years a lot of the male announcers pretend they know anything about our sport and it's very see-through. At least AJ and Lami obviously know our game first-hand, as does Angela of course.

They need to go with red breezers and helmets. Are they too cheap to order red vs go to the local sporting good place and just buy black?

I have only watched the first period so far.....Watts was Keller doing there???? Out in the middle of nowhere. Watts a bad play that was.

If the US is going to lose, I'm ok losing to ARD.

Canada 4 USA 2 despite the USA dominating time of puck possession and shots on goal. In the nets for Canada Desbiens was tres bien although the USA had her down and out of position in a lot of instances and either had shots blocked by her Canadien teammates or the USA missed the net. If the USA gets 53 shots on goal the next time these two meet I think the US will win the rematch.

Gotta give a shout out to the Clarkson players on Team Canada, Jamie Lee Rattray with a goal and Renata Fast seemed to be on the ice for longer periods than anyone on team Canada. The announcers even mentioned that she had logged 19 min in the first 2 periods and her name was called out numerous times in the third period.

For team USA Abby Roque was tremendous. Not sure at the end but I think she won every faceoff she took in the game.

Not sure what you were watching...maybe you didn't see the entire game? Canada is clearly the best team...I don't get the sense the US held back so they could "ambush" them in the gold medal game. Also, these teams don't play a ton of games so it's hard to really change strategy much, but it was very clear that Canada was backing in and seemed to be content with letting the US shoot from the point, from where they are almost never going to score. On the other hand, Canada would drive to the net and outnumber the US. Regarding the "Angela" comments, the fact that US "outshot" Canada 2-1 is almost meaningless (see above re: where the shots were coming from). Her comment that it's a "tossup" is pretty good evidence that she is not very objective. And it also seems as though Canada has better goaltending, which obviously is often the determining factor.
