Frozen Four Semifinal - Detroit
#1 – Minnesota State v. #2 – Boston College
Mankato regained their two-goal advantage early in the third period when Senior wunderkind Marc Michaelis won a puck battle behind the BC net, skated out to the bottom of the far circle, and roofed a wrister over Knight. The unassisted goal put Minnesota State up 3-1, and BC then unleashed a storm of an attack. Following the Michaelis goal, Boston College flung nine shots on goal in a six minute span, and while McKay showcased his All-American talent, the ninth of those shots, a backhand off a rebound at the edge of the crease, slipped through McKay’s armpit, and found the back of the net, and with a half-period left to play, the Eagles pulled back within a goal at 3-2. Minnesota State pushed back to stem BC’s momentum, and the two sides skated back-and-forth in a wonderful display of racehorse hockey over the following eight minutes of play. However, it would be the goalies, Knight and McKay, who shone brilliantly during this stage, making great stop after great stop. As the clock ticked towards zeroes, Boston College made one final charge, pulling Knight and pushing for the equalizer. However, with just over a minute to go, Dallas Gerads won a puck battle along the far boards in the Mavericks’ zone, chipped the puck out to center ice, and the player of the game, Nicholas Rivera, outhustled the BC defender to the puck, gained control at the red line, and zipped it down into the gaping net to give MSU a 4-2 advantage. That would prove to be the nail in the coffin, and while the Eagles desperately tried to get it back within a goal, when the final buzzer rang, it was the Minnesota State Mavericks advancing to the NCAA National Championship game, with a 4-2 victory over the Boston College Eagles.
That's top notch there.
Oh my, this is what we Maverick fans were looking forward to all year. My hope was that we would play North Dakota one more time this year.
I think on Saturday I might do a "game thread" sort of style if there is interest. That being said...
Frozen Four Semifinal - Detroit
#1 – Minnesota State v. #2 – Boston College
The Minnesota State Mavericks, making their first ever trip to the Frozen Four after winning their first two NCAA Tournament games in Allentown just a week-and-a-half ago, squared off against the Boston College Eagles, appearing in their NCAA-record 26th Frozen Four, in the afternoon tilt of the NCAA Tournament Semifinals today in Detroit. Coach York tabbed Spencer Knight to man the pipes for the Eagles, while MSU went with Hobey Baker Finalist Dryden McKay. McKay got the better of Knight in the opening frame, as McKay stopped all 11 shots the Eagles put on net, including three huge stops on the penalty kill midway through the period after Connor Mackey was called for interference. While Knight stood strong for BC in the first half, just after Mackey’s penalty expired, Charlie Gerard dumped the puck into the Eagles zone and Nicholas Rivera won the race to the puck in the near corner. Rivera then slid the puck to a streaking Parker Tuomie in the slot, who roofed a wrister over Knight’s glove to put the Mavericks up 1-0. Knight held Minnesota State in check the rest of the way in the first, and after twenty minutes of play, Minnesota State held a 1-0 lead over Boston College.
Frozen Four Semifinal - Detroit
#1 – North Dakota v. #4 – Ohio State
The top overall seed, and NCHC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, the North Dakota Fighting Hawks, met up with the Big Ten’s Ohio State Buckeyes in the evening contest of the NCAA Tournament Semifinals in Detroit. The Fighting Hawks, looking to extend their NCAA-record for appearances in the national title game to fourteen, went with Adam Scheel in net, while the Buckeyes, looking for their first ever national title game appearance, went with Tommy Nappier. Nappier was tested early and often in the first period, facing eight UND shots in the first half of the period, but Nappier was up to the task, keeping the Fighting Hawks off the board in the first ten minutes. Meanwhile, Scheel was Nappier’s equal in the first period, stopping each of the Buckeyes’ nine shots on goal. It appeared that the game would be scoreless through twenty minutes, but with just under a minute to play, Hobey Hat Trick finalist, Jordan Kawaguchi, made a beautiful cross ice pass to Grant Mismash at the far circle. Mismash ripped a one-timer that beat Nappier, and after one period of action, North Dakota held a 1-0 lead.
Went into the Grocery Store today, just so I could bang on the Plexiglass in front of the cashier to feel like I was at a hockey game....I was respectfully escorted out

Obviously they don't know what caused your action. Two minutes maybe but a game misconduct? I don't think so.
The series in Mankato was awesome despite the outcome of course. I was really hoping UND would get another chance to play the Mavs! The simulation will have to do.![]()
