Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers V: Bye Felicia

He proposed a wealth tax in 2014.

And her plan isn't better thought out precisely because of what you're talking about, she doesn't have a plan to go after offshore tax havens unlike Bernie and his plan actually taxes high frequency financial trading while hers' doesn't.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers V: Bye Felicia

Reading this thread kind of brings into focus possible reasons why Democrats occasionally struggle to get elected, even though quite frequently they are opposed by some unsavory individuals.

Republicans sit around, planning, and decide, "hey, I have an idea. People are struggling. Why don't we tell them we know they're struggling and we'll help them if we get elected. Then, once we're in office we can get that tax cut passed that we've always wanted."

Meanwhile, we've got Dems like Scooby sitting around saying, "hey, I have an idea. Everyone knows the wealthy have too much money. Let's tell people that if they elect us, we'll pass a wealth tax, and anyone who tries to get around it will have all of their assets seized by the government, and if you try to hide your money out of the U.S. we'll put you in prison for life, or maybe shoot you into the sun."

Hey, excellent plan.

Hey, excellent plan.

I'm not running for office. Good try though.

Hey, excellent plan.

Democrats lose because America doesn't have poor people, just temporarily embarrassed millionaires. The GOP has convinced rural America that they too could be millionaires if the government stopped taking their pennies to give them to the urban welfare queens.

You also need strong agreements with foreign countries and tax havens (aka Cayman Islands) to make sure people can't just park their assets there.

I'm all for a wealth tax although I fear Bernie is trying to get into a dick measuring contest with Lizzy Warren since her plan came first and is better thought out. I couldn't tell you what the correct rate is but I'd be willing to settle for a smaller rate than maybe Sanders and his acolytes in order to get the whole concept off the ground and enshrined in law. THEN we can stick to the uber rich over time with gradual increases. ;)

Sorry. Lizzie's dick is bigger

Scooby posting things on a message board is why the dems lose

Scoob, if I was a UMinn fan I'd be ****ed at you. That kind of power and the Golden Gophers can't even make the tournament?? What kind of tinpot god are you?

A really bad one. I can't get a Stanley Cup or Super Bowl winner around here either. And I've been waiting almost 50 years for both.

You can't dismiss the power of Scooby Stink! Once it gets on something, whatever that is faces certain doom in whatever its trying to succeed at. Scooby can't just say he's rooting for something in the hopes the opposite happens. He actually has to WANT it to happen. Once that does, its a death sentence. I really, really wish the Koch Bros organization or someone would brainwash Scoobs and get him to actually start wanting Republicans to win. Sorta a Trojan Horse effect, but nothing would more swiftly bring the GOP to its knees. :D

This is long long long long long overdue.

Mind blown.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers V: Bye Felicia

Any sympathy I had for that guy dried up over the summer. In fact, I kind of despise him more than usual because unlike his older, draft dodging Pubbie colleagues, he actually served.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers V: Bye Felicia

No point in raising taxes if you aren't also going to close legal loopholes and properly punish people and corporations who evade them.

DING DING EFFING DING.

Instead of new laws, cut tax credits and loopholes. Huh. How novel.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers V: Bye Felicia

Why not both?

I don't believe in punishing the rich for making money. Closing loopholes means they can't hide their earnings from taxes. And believe me, that's a HUGE windfall for taxed income.

Edit: you know what I mean, uno.
