Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

In other words, the people who actually go and vote :)

Not for us they don't.

And anyway, blacks voted at the same rate as whites in 2012. There's a lesson in this which everybody but the DNC has figured out.

The Democratic Party Is Culling the Field Too Soon

Candidates should be focusing on retail politicking in Iowa and New Hampshire. Instead, they're wasting money trying to meet arbitrary debate requirements.

Probably so, but I knew Perez was a horrible idea. I just hope whoever comes out at the end can crush the orange idiot.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Your usual dribble. Stop reminding us your butt is still smarting from embarrassing yourself in 2016. Let. It. Go. We all make mistakes. Nobody blames you for being a bonehead in 2016. What we're laughing at is your "I MEANT to do that!!!" act ever since.

Umm..Kep, your Clinton obsession aside, this is exactly what happened in 2010 and 2014. If you want all the socialist goodies you pine for, that means Dems showing up for every election, not taking the mid-terms off. A lot of good Dems went down in those years in the Senate, seats that we really could have used right now.

I'm getting the feeling that at some point in the past you put the moves on Hillary at one of those Beltway Cocktail parties that you attend as a guest of Mrs. Kepler, and she blew you off! Maybe you tried your luck right after the Lewinsky scandal? :D

No one has earned a spot on the "should be there but won't" list. The top 4 candidates give you everything you need to choose from and everybody else is either a one issue candidate, a loon, or has failed to catch on thus far.

After I posted I thought about changing Booker out for Inslee.

The problem in the timeframe you mention was your party's management's obsession on national elections and virtually ignored the statehouses.

You lost your farm system where whack jobs get weeded out before getting to Broadway. Fortunately for the Ds, DWS has been sent to play on the diner theater circuit and the pros are now in charge. You're building your bench back up.

While I appreciate the sentiment here, it's not quite that dire. 538 did an analysis which suggested that the loss of down ballot offices during Obama was fairly typically for an incumbent president's party. It was bad... but it has ordinarily been pretty bad.

Now, they suggested that while it was in line with historical variation, we have also been moving towards a much more locked electorate with far less volatility in seat switching. So having the same losses but in a much "safer" (read: rigged) environment can be interpreted as a worse than average showing.

Right now we're actually testing the hypothesis. The severe gerrymandering still exists so on the back swing if Dem gains rival those of the GOP during that period that will support the contention that Obama's losses were actually no big deal. If it tends to protect the GOP (as it did in a big way with the House in 2018, where gerrymandering actually protected them from a further 20+ seat loss, and that's not even counting Republican voter suppression and of course outright right wing fraudulent vote miscounting like NC's) then the hypothesis that the Obama losses were worse is supported.

It's hard to know because the natural swing between parties is being fouled by systemic GOP cheating and in some places actual criminality, and of course Russian meddling. The first step in restoring actual democracy is to obliterate that, but to do so we need the very seats that cheating is stealing for the GOP to protect themselves. The criminals are running the court system so it's hard to get a conviction. It's the equivalent of the Barr Injustice Department.

Makes sense. Yang has the perfect solution for a Silicon Valley left-ish tech bro.

I have to admit it's very attractive to me.

Never happens here either.

Don't worry. It's just a liminal state.

Kentucky Democratic Party is selling Moscow Mitch merchandise and it's breaking sales records for them. Stuff is selling like hotcakes.
