2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Klobucher needs to spend and campaign in Iowa or one or two other early states, and do so effectively.

She'd be a perfectly fine President, and probably better than most of the rest of the possibles we've seen so far. But, she's not independently wealthy. She's got the charisma of rock. There is a big likelihood that she gets like 4% support in Iowa, 5% in New Hampshire, then folds the tent before the first big primary date because no one is sending her money.

I really do not think she has a chance. Unless Independents support her in droves but they usually are not primary voters. I like her pragmatism but I do not like her ability to dream and push the envelope.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Yeah that was the narrative last night so it hasnt changed. It is about the detention centers at the border which is part of reigning in ICE. They dont want to give them billions and let ICE just put every immigrant in jail indefinitely. Makes sense not to give the money without covering for the (not so) unintended consequences. (since you know that is what the GOP wants...ICE with unfettered control down there)

I never like the idea of a shutdown but the Dems have to continue playing hardball. When you make your opponent bend a knee you dont let them back up you keep them down. This is politics you play to win. The GOP is scared [beepless] of another shutdown for a ton of reasons on top of the fact that it might force the Dummy to declare a national emergency which then sets a precedent they know will screw them if and when a Dem wins the White House again.

Yeah classic deflect from Trump...so what? It didnt work last time it wont this time. The Dems have been public and on point because their leadership has everyone in lockstep. Notice the Bernie Bros and Far Left Nutbars aint whining about Nancy no more ;)

"'Protections for violent offenders' sure sounds like an odd stance for a political party to take. So it should be no surprise that it’s not accurate. Yes, Democrats want to cap the number of unauthorized immigrants that ICE can detain at any given time. But the proposed cap — 16,500 — matches the level of detentions inside the United States in recent years. By capping the number, Democrats want ICE to focus on violent illegal immigrants, not waste resources arresting a mother in San Diego in front of her family or holding parents separated from their children."

That is why the narrative is doomed to fail Scooby. It is why Richard Shelby (R) is freaking out right now as head of Appropriations. The Dems arent doing anything but keeping the status quo and not allowing for another Concentration Camp event and everyone knows it. If they stand pat the GOP doesnt have a leg to stand on.

Whats more, even if say, public opinion blames the Dems along with the GOP (likely to happen since people are fed up) it still hurts the GOP more than it hurts the Dems at this point. The GOP has been tanking for a while now and despite Trump's protestations his approval rating is putrid. (only Rasmussen has him "favorable" ) How bad are his numbers you ask? He is in the low 40s (42% aggregate on RCP, 40.4% on 538) and that is AFTER the SOTU and with a favorable jobs report, Dow Jones and Economy overall. When your SOTU "bump" only gets you above 40 you are in trouble.

And see that puts him in a bad spot if the Dems hold court again. (which they will, they have zero to lose) His whole persona is built on the "Master Negotiator" and he got a double burn the last shut down because he was blamed AND he lost. He cant lose again and he wont let the GOP lose. Since we know the GOP Leadership doesnt have the stones to fight him(Graham has already capitulated and TurtleBoy will only do what he is told) that means this is going to last again. And this isnt about a War or Civil Rights...it is about Immigration which for 75% of the country if not more isnt in the top 5 issues right now. Not good.

So even if both sides get blamed it will hurt the Dems but it will be a knockout punch to the GOP. This is a game of heads up Poker and the Dems have top pair, twice the chips and their opponent on Tilt. You ride them til you have taken every dime. If the GOP wants the money for security, every dime has to be accounted for nothing shady. No diverting money to fences and walls, no added rooms to lock up immigrants and children. They can add personnel, they can update the facilities and they can fix what needs fixing but that is it! The Dems need to give them no avenue to backdoor a wall or beef up his Gestapo...end of story.

edit: This says it best:

"The truth is, three weeks after the last shutdown ended, the White House and the GOP still have no idea how to get out of the corner they’ve worked themselves into. They promised the base a “border wall,” but they have even less leverage now than they did when the first shutdown started. So they’ve returned to the first page of the playbook: scaremongering about violent immigrants."

She's got the charisma of rock.

Not true at all. Did you watch her during the Kavanaugh hearings? She has a very appealing style -- it comes across as common sensical but not putting up with BS. That's a good place to be.

She certainly projects common sense and comes across as very straightforward and trustworthy. She's just very low key, has been my assessment watching her in her local races here in Minnesota.

I recommend she stay low key. When cerebral people try to fake a raucous, gung-ho style it comes across as cringeworthy and fake. That was one of Hillary's flaws.

My recommendation for a Klobuchar campaign slogan is, "Because America is Better than This." We all know Dump is a swine. Make the election a contest between the guffawing brainless morons who want a swine as their symbol, because they are so morally and mentally bankrupt, and the rest of us. Sure, there are a lot of them. Think back to high school -- there were a lot of slack-jawed yokels and bullies. But they weren't anything close to the majority. And their act gets old fast.

We are better than this. The crassness and cynicism of the Dumpies is gross, and most of us want to hose it back into the sewer.

And in today's world that doesn't play for/to the cameras.

Mentioning the former governor of Arkanas:

Say we know of Mr. Clinton what we knew of him in 1991 (no more, no less). Would that person even get a sniff of the D nomination for 2020?

Aside from his personal issues (which would have leaked out in the first week after he announced), Third-Way politics are not popular amongst 2019 Democrats.

I agree.
But then think about it: Who moved politically? Clinton? The Ds? The Rs? (The answer is in your answer.)

(And the whisper-campaign was running against Clinton in 1991.)

It just might. Integrity played great when the country was sick of Nixon's ratf-ckery. A good BS detector may play great when the country is sick of Dump's lying.

The losing party. McCain went from candidate to mistrusted outsider in 10 years while the party shifted towards tribal nationalism. Hillary speedran that in about two while the Dems shifted left.

The electorate shifted left. A lot of the Democratic party ballast is still attracting flies (and media fawning) as a bloated corpse on the center-right.

I think people want raw meat Kep. Being cerebral is fine (Obama, for example) but it needs to include some cutting digs at the opposition. "1982 called governor, it wants it economic policy back". I have no idea if Klobacher can do that but I suppose we'll find out. I don't want a bridge builder, because that implies Republicans are normal people. I want a nut cutter who comes out and says the GOP is a treasonous money laundering cult. Lizzy Warren seems to have the right idea but I'm sure they'll be others.

Fair enough. I will correct myself and not go with that line anymore.

How often in that clip did Ross attack bubba?

Polls had hilly winning all those states too.......

How was 41 supposed to answer that dumass question how the fed deficit affected him?

I agree.

RNC wanted to run against bubba as “a man who can’t control his belt, his zipper, or his wife”. Ross instead created a two front war.
