2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Slick Willy delayed because of his own womanizing, and because Bush Sr. was a popular VP following up a very popular (rightly or wrongly) POTUS. The writing was on the wall.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Boy if that isn't an indictment of a large swath of Americans nothing is. Sadly this is true. The only people who voted for trump in 2016 who are not gonna do so in 2020 are the ones that will be dead.

I disagree. I didn't vote because I hated Hill and Trump. Many out there voted 3rd party/etc because of the same reasons. Some (enough) voted for Trump simply because of the Hillary factor. They are not necessarily Republican or Democrat. Secure the last election's pure anti-Hillary votes, and Dems win.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

This. So much this. The only way to right this ship is to win elections. We got a start to that in 2018. A similar result in 2020 and we might see some real differences being made. Having said that though, never underestimate the Democratic party's ability to screw up a wet dream. Eyes on the prize everyone. Pledge now to love, honor and support whoever gets the Democratic nomination in the Summer of 2020. As far as I'm concerned I'm treating he or she like a combination of the good qualities of the Roosevelts and Abe Lincoln.

Correct. Dems get in trouble when they attempt to be too clever by half. This goes for both nominations and voting.

I've already taken my pledge: if it's got a D it's got my vote, end of discussion. I no longer give a sh-t about anything more than driving the GOP into extinction. They're Johnnie Reb this time around, and this time there will be no Rutherford B. Hayes to save them. They have to die.

Read an article in the Mpls Star Trib, and they said (THEY said) that Amy K is "too centrist" to win.

Doesn't everyone WANT a uniter? Someone who can make everyone at least sorta happy about decisions made? Obviously, I don't want to go ultra-either side, so that is why I'm very interested in her candidacy. Someone who can bridge the gap, the canyon that is happening right now. And some of the left are saying, "naw, you aren't progressive enough." I get it, but I can't say I agree with it. Not at all.

Edit: Star Trib is a liberal leaning paper.

No. Not anymore. You can't unite with terrorists.

Let me be clear. I do not care what Republicans want. They do not deserve to be heard after what they have unleashed on this nation. I want every Republican politician out of office and ever Republican voter unhappy. Permanently.

Up theirs for what they have done. Up yours if you're still with them.

But what about the dis-enfranchised Rs who have left that? The ones like me who are searching for some common causes, some balance, something to erase the overall chasm? Or at least make it less violent in nature? I think Amy could have that. And here's some people that are saying she can't have that opportunity, because she's not extreme enough? That bothers me.

Brent you need to see how your actions prolong the misery. You say you don't like either extreme side, and I get that. But it ain't 1980 anymore. Or 1975. Or 1960 or 1950. The right wing has left this country in an unmitigated mess. Income disparity that will destroy ANY economic system. Environmental destruction that is literally placing the planet in peril. Crumbling infrastructure. A mass shooting 9 out of every ten days. The right doesn't allow or believe in "centrism." They considered Bill Clinton's presidency as a harbinger of coming socialism. That's insanity. And when it became clear all reasoned evidence and arguments proved how destructive the republican agenda has been they then decided to begin denying science and poo-pooing education.

We have two choices right now, continue destroying the planet, or voting republicans out of office. I'm not saying democrats are perfect. They aren't. And maybe they will continue to ruin the world too. But right now our only choice is republican or democrat. For how long do people need to see the so-called centrist 3rd party is never going to arise and be viable. Its been well over 200 years of politics now. We have two choices. 99.9% of all elections in this country will have someone who is aligned with either the republicans or the democrats winning. I know for sure one party will continue the path to destruction.

Um, Amy K is a (D). The Star Trib link (which I cannot link since I don't subscribe online) said she isn't progressive (read: liberal) enough to be a viable candidate. It seems many of today's (D)s DO want the pendulum to swing to the other extreme, and I am not for that.

Strange. I wonder why that would be.

Well then you will continue to be part of the problem Brent. Fact is what is called swinging to the other extreme is most often a slight correction back towards the center. Only one party has swung significantly towards an extreme in the last 40 years, and it ain't the democrats. For every AOC who espouses some pretty significant movement leftward there are 50 republicans who move even further to the right. It is a fvcking myth the the democrats have moved leftward. For my entire lifetime they have slowly creeped to the right. If we elected the democrat that is running in every single election in 2020 the country would be about as liberal as it was socially and economically in 1965. Last time I checked no one was calling us a socialist country in 1965. Brent you too are a victim of 40 years of constant republican propaganda about the left. No you don't lean as far to the right as many and I know you are often as troubled by trump as the rest of us, but you have absolutely fallen for too much of the right's propaganda. Vote however the hell you want, that's what America is all about, but don't believe for a minute if you vote for someone currently calling him or herself a republican that you're doing anything but adding to the problem. I very badly want two parties of competing ideas from either end of the political spectrum as a choice. But we absolutely do not have that with ANY republican right now, and haven't for at least a generation. It took me over a decade to realize that, but I thank God I did. Learn from other's mistakes.

Yeah Kepler is to blame for a bunch of racists voting for fascism.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Brent isn't a centrist, he's a both-sideist right wing troll and is basically in the same realm as Drew (except Drew doesn't have people jumping to his defense via some weird paternal instinct).

I view it more in terms of believers vs non-believers. You and a lot of the other posters believe in the Dems where Brent and I don’t believe in either party.
