2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

While Warren was at U. Penn. Law School she put herself on the “Minority Law Teacher” list as Native American) in the faculty directory of the Association of American Law Schools. Harvard Law School at one time promoted Warren as a Native American faculty member.

She may not have gotten any overt favors out of it in terms of promotions, tenure, or salary, but there's enough there to suggest she may have been reasonably seen by the average person as knowledgeable on tribal matters, which she clearly is not. She may have also gotten a bit of undeserved preferential treatment from the rest of the faculty or from her students.

Regardless, it's wrong for her to have made those claims.

So she didn't provably benefit from it and you're grasping at straws.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Everyone who gets anywhere takes advantage of something. With Trump it's lauded. With Elizabeth Warren it's reviled.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

The difference is in how they play it tactically.

No, the difference is gender and race. White men who don't pay their contractors are revered as smart businessmen. White women who cherish a heritage they're technically not entitled to are reviled.

It's very simple to calculate as you follow along what really is going on.

She can't change what she put on her application for Harvard but accepting Trump's dumb premise in the first place to the point that she took a **** DNA test was a tactical mistake that has nothing to do with her gender.

She was trying to satisfy the naysayers. She failed. It happens.

Cherokee Nation already told her to buzz off. I think she should take that advice, acknowledge she has previously overstated her ethnic background, and be done with it.

She should stick to being a great Senator. All this attention will get her nowhere.

Re: Warren, I warned you the moment she announced. Let's hope we get a crowded field in a hurry.

Like I said, she's probably running for the experience of it. Lots don't win and not many complain they did it.

I thought the amount of native DNA matched the family story of x(6?) generations ago a native ancestor.

Doesn't matter anyway. We need someone younger and not already disliked by many Americans. 4 years ago she was saying how she could be more effective as a senator, and that was why she didn't run for pres in 2016. What changed her mind for 2020?

Cause we all know the Democrats cleared the deck for Hillary. Bernie wasn't a Democrat and he cleared the deck for Trump. And, now we have the worst President in US History.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

At this stage, I'd like to see a middle America ORourke/Klobuchar ticket. White guy (for rural independent voters), charisma, great counter to Trump with an experienced upper midwest VP.

Hillary isn't running this time.

I rest my case.

I actually chuckled at this one as well even if he clearly didn't come up with it himself.

With full respect to you, my recommendation is that we should put forward the positives of our favorite candidates rather than fault find the rest of the field. There will ten or so strong Democratic candidates and all but one of them will not win the nomination. Hence, about 90% of us are going to be backing a candidate in the general who we would not say is our ideal choice today. All Democrats are on the same team. Whoever we choose as our starting QB, all the rest need to be helping on the sideline on game day in November 2020.

So, if you do prefer youth then please phrase it as "I like Beto's youth." We can all connect the dots that Warren does not score well on that attribute and thus, insofar as that attribute is important to one, she is not your ideal choice at this time.

"Beto is good because..." starts a much different conversation than "Warren is bad because..." These little things make a difference. They defuse the mutual distrust and rancor we sometimes generate about each other, waste less energy on infighting, and make it a lot less embarrassing to backpeddle when it comes time to pull together behind the eventual nominee.

The other thing I would gently recommend is to keep an open mind. If you draw a line in the sand early then you are much less likely to listen impartially to the candidates, to your own detriment. The nomination should be, in my opinion, them advertising for your vote, not you carrying their water. Make them earn it. Don't give your heart away. This isn't like sports fandom where you pick your allegiance and then boost them hell or high water. This is going to a hardware store and selecting the right tool. Evaluate the entire selection and be willing to change your mind if a better fit comes to your attention.

I get that and generally agree. Esp if I was doing a major PR campaign.

Issue is that she's going to be inflammatory. The 'Donald Trump is a loser' and 'poor are getting the shaft' message over and over (whether true or not) works against the positive message that you appear to be trying to instill in us. Its not the successful path of B. Clinton or Obama and plays right into Trump ALL CAPS anger wheelhouse. She is a problem.
