2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather

This sounds a little like "climatologists are really raking it in over global warming." :-)

If the Weather Channel has the ability to name them then yes, absolutely. But if it's real scientists then I would assume there are objective criteria.

The named winter storms is where they're making **** up for ratings.

So what happened with Double Penetration? I thought yesterday was the big day?

All a product of media hype. Those of us that are actual meteorologists knew that the odds of there being 2 hurricanes in the Gulf at the same time were rather remote to begin with. It was also obvious that Marco was going to get ripped apart by wind shear as it approached the coast, and had little chance of making landfall as a hurricane. Laura on the other hand, is going to be a beast at landfall.

NOAA on Hurricane Laura: "Unsurvivable storm surge with large and destructive waves will cause catastrophic damage... This surge could penetrate up to 40 miles inland from the immediate coastline, and flood waters will not fully recede for several days after the storm."

Maybe if we didn’t have the NOAA, we wouldn’t have hurricanes

Man I dont know much about Cat 4 or 5 hurricanes but it does not sound pleasant. Lake Charles is in trouble...

Good thing we've got a strong, decisive POTUS who cares about real 'Muricans and will ensure those red districts get plenty of federal disaster aid, unlike that spiteful son of a b!($*# Obama.

What I read on Twitter by some of the meteorologists was this was still showing signs of strengthening.

Yeah as of an hour ago they were saying the pressure was still dropping...

Good god it already looks bad and they are saying this is literally nothing.

Update from NHC continues to use the word ‘unsurvivable’. 10-20 ft

nkc saying storm surge could penetrate 40 miles inland. (Obviously not 20 ft but any level 40 miles on is insane.)

Why would you build a tower of glass in Lake Charles, LA?

After.
