2018 Midterms 2: I Need A Drink!

Re: 2018 Midterms 2: I Need A Drink!

Yup - here's the NYT list

@Convertbond: Midterm Election, Most House Seats Lost by President's Party in Power

2010 Obama: -63
1994 Clinton: -52
1958: Eisenhower: -48
1974 Ford (Nixon): -48
1966 Johnson: -47
1946 Truman: -45
2006 Bush: -30
1950 Truman: -29
1982 Reagan: -26
2018 Trump: -26

*NY Times data since 1946

This isn't a surprise and reflective of this previously cited graphic which shows that since Reagan conservative voters vote party over country. Trump "only" losing 26 seats isn't a surprise.

Re: 2018 Midterms 2: I Need A Drink!

It's got a ways to go though. The Dems ran pretty much the best possible candidate in the country in that Texas Senate race against a guy probably more disliked in Texas and elsewhere than just about any politician, and they still fell a bit short. Any normal Republican candidate beats Beto by a comfortable margin.

Yeah, Cornyn in 2020 will be a usual double digit GOP win.

Re: 2018 Midterms 2: I Need A Drink!

Wouldn’t PR have to vote to apply for statehood first and they have never done so? I’m no expert in the subject though.

PR has voted for statehood many many times...it did pass in 2017 after the opposition group boycotted the vote...

Harry gave Mitch the ability to point the finger and say --> "Hims did it first."
That's the mistake.

So they should've let McConnell hamstring the judiciary even more until he got control, and then open the floodgates to even more GOP judges. Good call.

It's happening, the flood, now either way; but, now Mitch gets to cast off the blame of the method he's doing it by. Never give Mitch a scapegoat or excuse.

The only people on this whole board who blame Reid are you and Joe.

You're right, the flood is happening. It would've happened anyway. So you're saying Reid should've left another 100 judicial chambers empty for McConnell to fill because...

It's not because voters would punish McConnell. They proved that after Garland.

It's not because McConnell would've held his own hand, because he's shown he's more power hungry than most Presidents.

So why should Reid have left those 100-some seats to flounder?

So the republicans could fill more judicial positions to deny North Dakota native Americans the right to vote.

Did you ever think that Myopic Mitch played a pawn sacrifice into checkmate? He maneuvered Harry into going Nuclear and figured (hoped) with a GOP president (not necessarily tD) and a GOP Senate, they could shape the judiciary and SCOTUS for a generation?

Nah. That would imply Mitch has an idea of how to strategize.

It wouldn't have mattered. Mitch always plays the hand he has in front of him. Democrats voters gave him his power and he takes every bit of it that's available. He doesn't need Harry Reid or anyone else's help.

He didn't need to maneuver Reid. Everything else would've happened anyway. That was just a bonus.

And that ignores the question, what do you think Reid should've done, why, and how would that have changed anything?

It took me a while but I really don't think people understand what the Republicans actually did and what they're willing to do.
