2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

A needed win in a trap game. The shot count is a little worrisome. Now, State has at least two series wins. There is no doubt Kampresal scheduled these four games last, he wanted to come into the Cha playoffs on a high note, but nobody expected the type of topsy turvy results in the CHA that RIT and Lindenwood have caused. It's looking like RIT then Robert Morris unless Lindenwood gets by Syracuse.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State and Lindenwood skated to a 3-3 OT tie today at Lindenwood to finish the CHA regular season. Penn State got goals from freshman Jessica Adolfsson, sophomore Shea Nelson, and junior Brooke Madsen. Penn State led the shots on goal by 27-23 and went 0-2 on the power play, while Lindenwood went 2-4.

The CHA tournament starts in four days, next Wednesday - Friday.

There goes the .500 hundred season unless PSU makes it to CHA championship.
Lindenwood box score play by play terrible.

So Penn State and RIT both finish with 18 points, but Penn State has the tie breaker and ends in 4th place? I assume that’s right. RIT with seven more conference wins than last year and moves just one place in the standings compared to last year.

I'm guessing since Penn State beat RIT 3 out of 4, they get fourth place alone. RIT was a whole different team this season, for sure - what a turnaround for that program.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

In the first series with Lindenwood, Penn State had 52 and 32 shots on goal, so you're right - shots were way down in this series. They had 50 and 38 against RIT earlier, so we'll see if they bring that kind of offense to the tournament on Wednesday. They play RIT at 7:30 PM.

Here's the CHA tournament schedule, and according to the Robert Morris website the tournament can be heard on 970 ESPN radio (online only), but I don't know if that's only for Robert Morris games since it's a Pittsburgh station - here's a link to that: https://www.iheart.com/live/970-espn-2013/ (just click the "play" button in the banner at the top).

I think they reseed. So with Syracuse finishing 3rd, if Cuse makes it to the semi, I believe 2nd place Hurst would play them. If Lindenwood makes the semi, RMU would play them. Should be a great tournament.

I edited the semifinal out because you're probably right. I thought the seeds stay with a team throughout the tournament.

Wouldn't it be nice if the CHA had a tournament page with some actual information on it besides game times and hotel/ticket/video prices? They haven't even bothered adding team names to the game dates and times. Anyone going to the tournament knows who is playing when, but if you're going to put up a tournament page, say something about the tournament besides how much it's going to cost you to attend or watch. Tournament seeding/reseeding info, team names, format info, arena info, etc.

Lindsay is correct. All of the conference tournaments reseed for the semis. The NCAA, however, does not for the national tourney.

Penn State and Syracuse on the hotseat. The fact that the RIT program is overperforming is a problem!

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Syracuse 4-0 against Lindenwood but two OT games. State 3 and 1 against RIT and Brenneman was out for the loss. Lindenwood is more likely to upset Syracuse than RIT over State based previous games. Syracuse getting hammered this weekend can not be good going into the CHA. And it looks like Robert Morris rested players against Syracuse in game two this past weekend.

Penn State went 0-3-1 against Syracuse this season, so I'm glad it's Lindenwood who has them on Wednesday. Penn State didn't fare any better against Robert Morris (0-3-1) or Mercyhurst (0-2-2), so if they get past Wednesday it's going to be a tough road. I'd love to see Penn State make the CHA championship game for the first time.

Best Scenario is for Penn State ending up playing Mercyhurst. Two games ended in a tie. In the first game Penn State had a goal disallowed with less than ten seconds left that would have tied it up. In game 2, Penn State had a 4-1 lead and lost in ot 5-4 in last 20 seconds. That screams to me two evenly matched teams.

As far as Robert Morris, Penn State was dominated by Robert Morris except for game four which was a 2-2 tie. Gebhardt has phenomenal stats against Penn State except for game 4 which henceforth became a tie.

You are correct on dodging Syracuse, they have been Penn State's achillies heel. Syracuse would have had an even worse year if not for their three wins against Penn State.

Penn State in general has had trouble slowing down big scorers.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Both Wednesday games are intriguing, but I’m most curious to see results of RIT Penn State. Lanteigne has the best save percentage of goalies in the league, even if she plays in the 5th place team. In the playoffs the defensive effort rises as we all know. That game has the potential to go deep into OT considering both goalies. Penn State can’t even look past RIT tbh, although us message board posters certainly can for the sake of conversation.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Correct when you are one game under .500, you cannot look past anyone. And RIT has been a graveyard in the past for former Penn State coaches. However, from a handicapping point of view, Penn State is 4-1-1 against RIT and RPI who are similar team wise and goalie wise.

If it was the former Penn State team that earlier in the year that was trying to emulate the Penn State's men's program who want to average 50 shots a game, I would say Penn State all the way. But, for some unknown reason right after the Cornell game, Penn State coaches were quoted as preaching less shots and that identity has not worked for Penn State.

So we shall see.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

RIT also lists themselves as the #5 seed. BUT, the CHA weekly recap lists RIT as 4 and PSU as 5th... "Penn State got three points from Lindenwood and is the fifth-seed, losing the tie-breaker of more conference wins to fourth-seeded RIT (but really, all it means is Penn State will wear the road blue sweaters instead of the home white’s)."

So I'm confused...
