2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Lindenwood was up 4-1 on Syracuse and Syracuse ended up winning 5-4. Mercyhurst beat Robert Morris 5-2. Can State win today so they have at least one winning series?

It would be nice to see Penn State win out the season. They have a battle coming next weekend at Lindenwood, even though Lindenwood is locked in as finishing last in the CHA regular season. It was a dirty, scrappy fight when Lindenwood played at Pegula.

The best Penn State can finish is fourth in the CHA, and that's only if RIT loses its last three games (including today). If RIT ties in at least one of the three games, loses the other two, and Penn State wins its last three games, RIT and Penn State will finish tied for fourth.

Just read the RIT write up and Penn State gets to deal with Senior day today. Hopefully, Brenneman is back.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

I can't find any live game audio at the radio station website, so apparently there's no audio available today. Looks like it's going to be a couple hours of staring blankly at the live stats.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

RIT got a 10-minute game misconduct involving some kind of hit on Brenneman, and now Cam Leonard is in net for Penn State, so I'm wondering if Brenneman got hurt on the play.

EDIT: Brenneman is back in the game now.

At the end of the first period it's tied 1-1 at RIT. Penn State leads the shots on goal by 12-7. Both teams are 0-1 on the power play. Penn State got the five minute power play on the game misconduct against RIT but didn't score.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

After two periods, Penn State and RIT are still tied 1-1. Both teams are 0-2 on the power play. Penn State leads the shots on goal 21-17, so RIT was a lot busier in that period.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State's Katie Rankin scored with 1:12 left to give Penn State the 2-1 win over RIT. Penn State turned it on in the third period, and led the shots on goal by a total of 38-22...which doesn't even count the 33 shots that RIT blocked...so it was another shootfest like yesterday. I still want to see what happened on RIT's game misconduct, but I suppose we'll never see it.

Back at it next weekend at Lindenwood to finish the regular season.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Going to Play RIT in first round of CHA. That's a winnable game.
Anyone versus anyone in the CHA has been a winnable game of late. I have no idea what to expect in advance from any pairing.

5 will play 6
RIT vs PSU
4 will play 6
Either Mercy Hurst or SYR will play Lindenwood

My ? Is there a reseed or is it a bracket?
I'm guessing the winner of the RIT game will play Robert Morris.

In the first round, #3 plays #6, and #4 plays #5.

In the semifinal, #1 plays the lowest remaining seed, and #2 plays the highest remaining seed.

They don't get reseeded after the end of the regular season.

My guesses for the first round are Syracuse vs Lindenwood, and RIT vs Penn State

Back at it next weekend at Lindenwood to finish the regular season.

G/M penalty was result of a hard drive to the net during which Logan Land elbowed Brenneman as she skated through the crease. Brenneman left game for 5 minutes (most like for concussion protocol), but was fine and returned to the game shortly.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Now that this weekend's games are over, the CHA standings look like this:

1) Robert Morris (25 points)
2) Mercyhurst (22 points)
3) Syracuse (22 points)
4) RIT (17 points)
5) Penn State (14 points)
6) Lindenwood (8 points)

There is one regular season weekend left, and four points up for grabs for everyone.

6) Lindenwood (plays Penn State) - can't move up and will finish in sixth place
5) Penn State (plays Lindenwood) - can move up to finish in fourth place, if they sweep Lindenwood next weekend and Mercyhurst sweeps RIT
4) RIT (plays Mercyhurst) - If they can win one at Mercyhurst, they will lock up fourth place, but cannot finish any higher than that
3) Syracuse (plays Robert Morris) - If they sweep Robert Morris, they will win or tie for the CHA regular season title, depending on if Mercyhurst also sweeps RIT
2) Mercyhurst (plays RIT) - If they sweep RIT, and Syracuse sweeps Robert Morris, they finish tied with Syracuse for the CHA regular season title
1) Robert Morris (plays Syracuse) - One win against Syracuse makes them the CHA regular season champions

As far as the CHA regular season title, only Robert Morris, Mercyhurst, and Syracuse are still in the running.

Robert Morris only needs to win one game next weekend to win the title. Among the three teams still in the race, there are all kinds of scenarios that involve splits, wins, ties, and depend on what the other two teams also do with their two games, and I'm not even going to get into all that. The CHA is a typical end-of-season mess...woohoo!

Yeoman's job on this. That's an A+ for sure.

Thank you - I shouldn't even be trying to figure out the CHA regular season champion with a weekend series left to play. But that's me...I'm a glutton. :D

For the quarterfinals of the CHA tournament, this much is set: Lindenwood will be #6 and play #3, whoever that ends up being. Penn State and RIT will be #4 and #5, in whatever order, and play each other.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

It's travel time for Penn State as they head to Lindenwood for this weekend's final CHA regular season series (Friday at 7:00 and Saturday at 2:00).

The weekend results really don't matter for either team, as Lindenwood can't finish any higher than #6, and Penn State will either finish #4 or #5 and is already set to play RIT to start the CHA tournament next week. It's one of those series that has to be played, and isn't much more exciting than that. Last month at home, Penn State swept Lindenwood, but Lindenwood has played much better at home than they have on the road. Actually, Lindenwood has been absolutely dismal on the road this season (1-14-1). Maybe Cam Leonard and Chantal Burke can get some playing time in net this weekend, just because.

Next week, the Wednesday-Friday CHA tournament is on, all of it being held at the HarborCenter in Buffalopegula, NY. Video coverage is by $tretch Internet.
