2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

And since these are the official seeds, I guess that confirms that (barring unforeseen issues with facilities), Adrian will host if they win on Saturday.

That's the assumption. I truly have no idea how Adrian is ahead of River Falls with St Thomas replacing Lake Forest. River Falls has a decent advantage is SOS .538 vs .517 and has a 75% win vs ranked compared to Adrian's 50%. They are tied in common opponents and record. So the way I see it River Falls wins the comparison 2-0. Am I missing something?

That's how I was interpreting it as well, but I'm new to this so wasn't sure how Adrian could be ranked ahead in the region with the advantages that RF had over them.

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

I would much rather have had Augsburg or Eau Claire in the NCAA tournament than GAC but I'm biased.

I would imagine that they're a little shocked that they are there themselves.

If you would have told me a month ago that two MIAC teams would be in the tournament I would have laughed at you :). But I'll take it.

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

I was just thinking about it...wouldn't a 9 team tournament have essentially saved the NCAA money this year? I'd assume the 9th team was probably Endicott. If it were Augsburg it may not have.

But then they would not have had to fly a team for the first round. Gustavus/St Thomas play on Wed to determine who plays River Falls.

Elmira @ Adrian
Endicott @ plattsburgh
Norwich @ Middlebury

Would it have made things cheaper?

I can see if it been Augsburg creating slightly more expense. As I'd assume Endicott/Elmira play the play-in and if Endicott wins...then they have to fly a team anyways.

I'm down for playing with hypotheticals. I think Utica should have been team 9 if we had one. I don't know why Endicott is ahead of them in the regional rankings given the criteria.

From the worksheets from the final rankings
Augsburg 13-10-3 (.558) WIN, .497 SOS, 0-4-0 RNK
Endicott 13-6-4 (.652) WIN, .429 SOS, 0-1-0 RNK
Utica 18-7-1 (.712) WIN, .552 SOS. 1-5-0 RNK

With the first round in-division play rule, You would have to have Utica/Norwich as the play-in game and you're flying someone regardless.

Even if Endicott is in over Utica and they play Plattsburgh, there's still the expense of an extra game at an extra site. The NCAA is on the hook for all of the travel and administrative costs they bear for each team in the tournament. Is the cost of the extra game less than the flight for St. Thomas to Plattsburgh and back? I don't know without seeing those numbers.

With the addition of a few new programs over the next couple of years, does anyone think they would skip from 9 to 10 teams right away and tweak the whole bracket?

Unless I counted wrong there are 62 teams right now. I know of Aurora andanother team starting next year. There have to be 65 for them to consider going to 10. Are there other ones out east?

With the rankings that they posted yesterday it would have come down to Augsburg and Endicott. It is suspicious why Endicott is still ahead...like it is with Adrian being ahead of River Falls

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Minneapolis seems like a lot easier of a hub compared to Detroit. I would think that the NCAA would lean towards River Falls over Adrian hosting. That's why Adrian being ranked ahead of them seems weird.

Just an FYI. If things work out for Adrian to host there is also an airport in Toledo, Ohio, which is about 35 miles away from Adrian. I'm pretty sure American Airlines flies there and maybe one or two smaller ones. It's just something to consider depending how everything goes this weekend.

Thanks for posting this. I'm sure people appreciate it.

Suffolk is starting a program in 2018-2019, with the 2 you mentioned that'll take it to 65. just wondering if they would be proactive and go to 10 as of next year?

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Aurora, Trine, and King's College are the one's I am aware of starting next year. And, as mentioned, Suffolk in 2018-19.

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Maybe Adrian didn't submit a bid to host?
It would seem odd that Adrian would not have submitted a bid. They do have a Men's D III Quarter Final against Stevens Point scheduled for 8:00 pm Saturday March 18th. So unless Adrian were planning on hosting at a different venue I believe it unlikely should Adrian win against Elmira that they would be hosting the finals. That leaves the winner of the Gustavus/River Falls (and I think there is still construction going on at River Falls) or GF St. Thomas.

Someone posted earlier that River Falls has been approved as a potential host site.

What does the 8:00 game have to do with anything?
