2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

How does Eau Claire jump ahead of Gustavus? Gustavus won its conference. Eau Claire did not win Conference or Playoffs. Gustavus won head to head this season.

Criteria before weekend

WIN SOS RNK
Elmira .7690 .5720 .3125 (1-4-3)
Endicott .8910 .4660 .0000 (0-1-0)
Utica .6480 .5630 .0714 (0-6-1)
Lake Forest .7960 .4730 .0000 (0-3-0)
Gustavus Adolphus .7120 .5200 .5000 (3-3-0)
UW-Eau Claire .6600 .5180 .4285 (3-4-0)

While it's not supposed to matter, Gustavus didn't reach their conference championship game. Regular season conference championship is meaningless in the process. Historically that has been the nail in the coffin for teams. I see you are using the D3hockey data. I'm not sure where they got their SOS ratings...but last weeks NCAA rankings had Eau Claire's SOS as .521 and Gustavus's as .520. I'd assume Eau Claire's will go up a smidge after playing River Falls again. I think it comes down to whether St Thomas gets ranked by the NCAA or not. If St Thomas gets ranked than I think it's Eau Claire, if they don't get ranked I thinks Gustavus. If Lake Forest hadn't lost to CSS than it would be them...but they have a weak schedule and have beaten no one good.

Middlebury wins the NESCAC. 4-1 over Amherst.

Pool A (automatic bid) teams are:

Plattsburgh (ECAC West)
St. Thomas (MIAC)
Adrian (NCHA)
Norwich (NEHC)
Middlebury (NESCAC)

pretty much a lock for Pool B:
UW-River Falls

I think for Pool C:
Elmira
UW-Eau Claire

I agree with this. The question is will Eau Claire go to Adrian or got to Plattsburgh.

Isn't Elmira the only school within 500 miles of Adrian? If those two teams don't pair up, you've added one flight before you even start.... I think Emira is locked into visiting Michigan on Saturday... St. Thomas to Plattsburgh would seem to be the only flight in the first round.

If it's a 4-4 split...we pretty much know it is...none of the other 3 western teams are within 500 miles

So your matchups are either
St Thomas/Eau Claire vs Plattsburgh
St Thomas/Gustavus vs River Falls
Norwich vs Middlebury
Elmira vs Adrian

Or
St Thomas/Eau Claire vs Adrian
St Thomas/Gustavus vs River Falls
Norwich vs Plattsburgh
Elmira vs Middlebury

If Eau Claire makes it they go to Plattsburg/Adrian, since they can't play River Falls. . If Gustavus makes it St Thomas takes the flight. They will have 1 flight either way. Scenario B is probably preferable for Elmira fans. Scenario A would be closer to a truly seeded tournament. Either way, you probably end up with 3 flights for the finals. Unless St Thomas and Gustavus/Eau Claire win their QFs

well....Mr. Webb says GAC is in... http://www.d3hockey.com/bracketology/women/2017/final-projection ...and off to River Falls. Elmira will find their way to Adrian, Tommies' girls are flying into PLB and Midd Will make the short trip to Northfield !

He's got Norwich @ Middlebury.

There was 1 flaw I see, he said Augsburg was 2-0 vs Gustavus they were 1-1.

He's assuming the rankings don't change. If they don't change I agree with him.

They've taken down the stat sheet so I can't see how St Thomas and Lake Forest compare...but I believe they would be somewhat justified in switching out Lake Forest for St Thomas. I'm probably wrong though. :)

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

The Elmira @ Adrian game actually holds up bracket integrity this year as I am pretty sure Adrain will be the W1 (maybe W2) and Elmira will be E4. It's not as bad as year's past where Elmira was higher ranked in the east.

Full bracket.

With 3 of the 4 western teams on one side and Elmira as the eastern team on the western side, we could end up with an all-eastern final at a western host like last time. Elmira over Middlebury in 2013....

It is announced the Monday or Tuesday after the quarterfinals. It will be a western location this year.

Yes...you'll have a whole four days to make travel arrangements and accommodations. Such a DUMB process. They should have a predetermined, neutral site picked well in advance. It's rather ridiculous in my opinion.

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Assuming Wis.-Fall Rivers wins its next game.... would it be there? Or at a neutral site?

Book at flight to MSP with a stop in Detroit on the way (or vice versa). You can just hop off early if necessary. :)

Teams do the hosting and have to submit a bid to host and they have to meet criteria set by the NCAA. Assuming they both put in a bid that meets the criteria and are in the semis, Adrian and UW-River Falls seem the favorites to host. They both seem to have smaller capacities than Plattsburgh's Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena which has hosted the last 3 and Adrian appears to have a smaller capacity than UW-RF. Of course if Elmira beats Adrian like last year and the Gusties somehow upset RF maybe it ends up in St. Peter, MN.

The last three year's I've waited for the Cards to win their semi before making travel plans, and as much as a last minute flight or staying home would suck, I'm personally too superstitious to do anything in advance.
