2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Adrian wins, I would assume they host. If they lose, it's at the winner of UWRF/GAC.

One possibility we haven't gone over is something similar to what Plattsburgh does when they're the host of the men's final four and use Lake Placid. Could Adrian find a bigger rink nearby and host it there? Arrington looks tiny on their streams and I can't imagine the NCAA would be thrilled to be in such a small venue.

I'm sure the venue and lodging all have to be secured at the time of applying. If Adrian bid, and I'd be stunned if they didn't, the venue has already been locked in place.

If you've been to Adrian, you will know that their hotel accommodations are pretty few and far between - not many places to choose from in regard to hotels.

Full bracket.

With 3 of the 4 western teams on one side and Elmira as the eastern team on the western side, we could end up with an all-eastern final at a western host like last time. Elmira over Middlebury in 2013....

Also gives us the opportunity for 3 western teams in the finals. :)

Well probably be able to figure out the likely host once the rankings come out tomorrow.

They use lake placid because it's the pre-determined site. I'm sure they could say the finals will be at Ridder Arena in MSP and no one would complain. Adrian is an hour from East Lansing and Ann Arbor. could hold it at the Michigan state arena or Michigan. ...but is that too big? Michigans Yost is 5800 seats. MSU's is 6500

Applications for hosting had to be in a few weeks ago. Also, with the exception of predetermined sites, the host has to have actually played >50% of its home games at the site in question.

Unofficially, I've also heard through the grapevine that lack of sufficient hotel accommodations may be a stumbling block for 1 or 2 potential hosts... but take that with a heavy dose of salt.

I'd plan on River Falls then. I don't think it would be a bad idea for them to have a predetermined host when it comes out west. I know that cuts down on the odds of the host being there, but it makes planning easier.

Do you have the full criteria handy?

I know on the men's side you have to have 4 locker rooms and I believe a minimum of 1000 seats. Which, would exclude Adrian. That criteria was in place when they built Arrington so I remember being surprised that they didn't put 1000 seats in their arena.

The only definitive criteria I can find is that the host must hold 16 hotel rooms for each team participating in the tournament. Plus rooms for officials andNCAA folks.

Book at flight to MSP with a stop in Detroit on the way (or vice versa). You can just hop off early if necessary. :)

All joking aside, if you hop off a flight early without notifying the airlines, they cancel your entire flight, including the return flight. Seriously. And you may not know it until you try going home...

I apologize if it wasn't clear I was joking. Slightly different but had something similar happen to me. Missed my outgoing flight so jumped on a different one on different airline. When I went to check in for return flight I was notified that it had been cancelled because I didn't take the outbound. Not a good day.

I have heard through the grapevine that River Falls's bid to host was approved by the NCAA. However, I am assuming Adrian applied to host also. I'd give River Falls a slight 60/40 edge on hosting over Adrian if they both win this weekend.

Oh, I figured you were joking. But, some people may not realize that can happen.

I know more than one person who did that going to Milwaukee with a layover in Chicago. When the second flight was delayed, they decided to rent a car to get their quicker. And you know the rest..
