2017 NCAA tournament selection thread

Re: 2017 NCAA tournament selection thread

Endicott seems to be for real, any thoughts on them, they have 5 D1 transfers,3 of which were big D1 programs, and all 5 are producing...Buehler Buehler anyone??

I wouldn't put Endicott as HEADS AND SHOULDERS better than Nichols, Salve Regina, or even UNE. The Nichols and Endicott game I saw in Beverly, the Bison collapsed in the third period but that game could have went either way for two periods.

We all know what Salve did last year to get the auto-bid.

Re: 2017 NCAA tournament selection thread

But that leads to a question. Since there are 10 East and 5 West teams ranked, will the committee consider East 5/6 the equivalent of West 3 when comparing ranks?

No. The handbook explicitly emphasizes the regional emphasis of Division III championships as well as how it pertains to hosting rights. The failure to understand this is why everyone was so surprised Elmira was sent to Adrian in 2011 when it really should have been no surprise at all. It adhered directly to the tenets of the process. Nothing has changed since then.

A down and up weekend for the Knights. Hammered by an unremarkable Fredonia team away, and then shutout Buff State at home.
You're right, they need a 4 point weekend to keep that spot.

The more likely drop out from this weekend's action may well be Hobart with a loss and a tie against (currently :) ) unranked teams.

Curry and JWU will be made up on Presidents Day. Anyone in a rent a rink scenario is going to have to work around the existing rink schedules to get the games in.

One good thing - the CCC QFs are not until 2/25, so probably 2/22 is the drop dead date.

Apparently re-scheduled for 2/20 at 2;50pm. Per (the "other" website).

Re: 2017 NCAA tournament selection thread

Isn't Presidents Day 2/20?

It is, but as always, it is impossible for President's Day to fall on Washington's Birthday because the latest the third Monday in Feb can be is Feb. 21, while Washington's Birthday is Feb. 22.

And today is Abraham Lincoln's birthday.

Re: 2017 NCAA tournament selection thread

Which in my home state of Illinois is the observed holiday.

The choice of the third Monday in February as 'Presidents' Day' always seemed odd to me because it honors both Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays, but the third Monday in February will alway come after Lincoln's actual birthday and before Washington's actual birthday. When I was a kid (back when dirt was new), both were celebrated as holidays on the actual day. Washington's Birthday was the date for annual mob attracting sales - kind of like "Black Friday" is now.

Stats, yes... I took 2 years of that, myself.

It truly isn't rocket science, but rather a path to an informed guess. It's nothing more nor nothing less in most cases, but at least there can be reasonable metrics to consider.

Prof's MO is to assume that nobody else has a clue, and he plays most of the posters here as hopeless dopes who have no idea whatsoever how to vet his assertions. ( And he's right assuming that much as often as not, sadly.)

The KRACH, or the Terry-Bradley, as Prof prefers to call it, is easily the most salient model available. If he comes up with a better one, good for him.

(Still waiting on that one, though.)

I have a better IRS code. Too bad that's not the one the IRS uses.

Isn't the first poll from the smoke filled room out today sometime ?

Re: 2017 NCAA tournament selection thread

Code:
REGION/RANK	SCHOOL IN-DIVISION RECORD OVERALL RECORD
East
1.	Norwich 17-1-3 21-1-3
2.	Endicott 15-3-2 17-3-2
3.	Oswego St. 18-4-1 18-4-1
4.	Hobart 15-4-4 15-4-4
5.	Babson 12-6-3 14-8-3
6.	Williams 13-6-3 13-6-3
7.	Hamilton 14-3-4 15-3-4
8.	Utica 17-7-0 17-7-0
9.	SUNY Geneseo	15-5-3 15-5-3
10.	Amherst 10-6-3 12-6-3
West
1.	St. Norbert 18-4-1 18-4-1
2.	Wis.-Stevens Pt 18-4-3 18-4-3

4.	Augsburg 14-3-6 14-3-6
5.	Wis.-Eau Claire	16-6-3 16-6-3

Endicott is #2 in the east???? Their SOS is much higher than I would have thought it would be. Hamilton has an almost identical record, but is 4 spots lower...

The NCAA may be convinced....but I am not...Endicott still has to prove itself before I will be convinced.
