2017-2018 D1 Women's Hockey Scores

Re: 2017-2018 D1 Women's Hockey Scores

And a stupid penalty behind the play at the end of the game dooms Cornell. Colgate gets a PP goal with 1.0 seconds left.

Re: 2017-2018 D1 Women's Hockey Scores

Ohio State leads one to zero in 'goals disallowed', they are tied 1-1 in 'loud ringing pipes', but it is 0-0 'at the pay window' (as Bob Uecker likes to say.)

Sauve is NOT playing for OSU. Amanda Zeglen had a very good first period.

I was under the impression that Sauve would be back from her injury today.

Is she done for the season?

Re: 2017-2018 D1 Women's Hockey Scores

Northeastern, Mercyhurst, and Colgate winning means we have the following bracket, barring any committee shenanigans:

OSU @ (1) Wisconsin
Mercyhurst @ (2) ECAC Champ
WHEA Champ @ (3) ECAC Runner-Up
Cornell @ (4) BC

Unless Minny beats Wisco, then UM to UW, OSU to BC, and Cornell out.

Shorter bus rides??

If they're gonna do that, then you might as well just go all the way and have

OSU @ (1) Wisconsin
Mercyhurst @ (2) Clarkson
Cornell @ (3) Colgate (1 hr drive)
WHEA @ (4) BC (90 minutes or 15 minutes drive)

Regardless of the ECAC.

If the committee does this, even though it would be to BC's benefit I would raise holy hell. Just put it in the fking manual if that's what you want to do, stop fooling around with us.

Re: 2017-2018 D1 Women's Hockey Scores

So if Minnesota beats Wisconsin, the ECAC champion would actually climb into the #1 spot in the Pairwise -- but only if Northeastern also wins Hockey East.

It won't affect the quarterfinals bracket, but it would affect the Frozen Four pairings.

Zumwinkle had a heck of a game. Best player on the ice by a long shot.

Olivia Knowles also had a very good game. So did both goalies. From the 10 minute mark of the second period to the 10 minute mark of the third, Zeglen singlehandedly kept OSU in the game.

That was probably the most nervewracking non-overtime hockey game I've ever watched.

I was on the edge of my seat pretty much the entire game. SO exciting! Looking back I think this may have been the Gophers' most complete game of the season. Everyone on the team bought in to the game plan and gave maximum effort all over the ice. Good thing, because Ohio State is very good, and you're not going to beat them unless you're clicking on all cylinders.

I also think the coaches made a very smart adjustment to start the 2nd period. In the first Ohio State was VERY aggressive on the forecheck, with their defenders pinching way in to stop the Gophers' breakout pass to the forward on the half-wall. It was working like a charm, creating turnovers as the Gophers struggled to get the puck out of the zone. But in the second the Gophers spread out more and mixed things up, forcing the Buckeyes' blueliners to back up sooner and give up the zone to prevent breakaways and odd-man rushes. I thought this really changed the game.

Hope tomorrow's championship vs. the Badgers is every bit as entertaining as this one was.
